Chapter One: A Familiar Name
The evening air was cool as Amelia walked back to her room. The sky had turned a deep shade of blue, stars flickering above like tiny whispers of light. She sighed, adjusting the strap of her bag as she reached for her phone. A long day of lectures had left her exhausted, but she still had assignments waiting.
As she unlocked her phone, her heart nearly stopped.
Julian.
The name flashed on her screen like a ghost from the past. A message. She hesitated before opening it.
"Hey… how have you been?"
Amelia's fingers tightened around the phone. It had been months since she last heard from him. Months of healing, of trying to move on. And now, just when she thought she was doing fine, he appeared like a storm cloud on a clear day.
She sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the message. Memories flooded back—nights filled with whispered confessions, stolen kisses, and promises that had eventually faded like autumn leaves. She had loved him. Maybe she still did.
But he had left her feeling empty.
Taking a deep breath, she locked her phone without replying. Not tonight.

The next morning, Amelia met up with her best friend, Josephine, at the campus café. The place was buzzing with students, the smell of coffee thick in the air.
"You look like you saw a ghost," Josephine said, stirring her tea. "What happened?"
Amelia sighed. "Julian texted me last night."
Josephine's spoon clattered against the cup. "Julian? After all this time?"
Amelia nodded. "Yeah."
Josephine frowned. "Did you reply?"
"No. I don't even know what to say."
Josephine leaned forward. "Maybe it's best to leave it that way. You don't need him reopening old wounds."
Amelia bit her lip. She wanted to believe that, but something inside her ached to know why he reached out after all this time. Was he sorry? Did he miss her? Or was he just bored?
Later that evening, Amelia found herself staring at the message again. Before she could change her mind, she typed a reply.
"I've been okay. You?"
Seconds later, three dots appeared.
"I miss you, Amelia."
Her heart pounded, her fingers hovering over the keyboard.
Did she want to go down this road again?
