Ava walked to the door, her heels clicking on the floor, and left Elliot with his father, Ethan, and younger brother, Lucas. Elliot's eyes remained fixed on the holographic screen hovering before him, his mind reeling with the mysterious message that displayed his name as "Smith."
"Lucas, can you see this?" Elliot asked, his voice trembling with confusion, as he gestured towards the screen. Lucas looked at him with a mix of shock and confusion, taking a step back, his eyes wide with fear.
"See what, brother?" Lucas replied, his voice shaking slightly. Elliot's eyes widened in frustration, his hands clenched into fists.
"The screen, right in front of me!" Elliot exclaimed, his voice rising. Lucas's expression turned from confusion to fear, and he took another step back, his eyes fixed on Elliot's face.
"I...I don't see anything, Elliot," Lucas stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. Elliot's face fell, and he turned to his father, his eyes searching for answers.
"Dad, what's going on? Can you see this?" Ethan's expression was a mix of concern and confusion, his brow furrowed in worry.
"See what, son? I don't see anything," Ethan replied, placing a reassuring hand on Elliot's shoulder. "Is everything okay?" Elliot's eyes dropped, and he remained silent, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
Ava opened the door to find a tall, slender man dressed in a military uniform standing on the porch. He was accompanied by four other soldiers and two black SUVs parked in the front yard. The sound of birds chirping and the rustling of leaves filled the air, a stark contrast to the tension inside the house.
"Good morning, Miss Thompson," the man said, his voice firm but polite. "My name is General Seth Rose. I'm with the military." He showed Ava his badge, and his eyes scanned the room, locking onto Elliot. Ava's instincts told her to be cautious, but she stepped aside, allowing General Rose to enter.
As General Rose walked into the house, his two officers stood behind him, their hands folded behind their backs. General Rose's eyes locked onto Elliot, his expression a mix of concern and curiosity.
"Elliot, you seem panicked," General Rose said, his voice gentle. "My name is General Rose, and these are my top officers. Is it okay if I ask you a few questions about where you were?" Elliot's eyes rose to meet General Rose's, but his vision was blurry due to the holographic screen in front of him.his mom sat beside him grabbing his hand. And with a bit of courage from his mom, Elliot began to recount his story. "I don't remember the particulars, but I remember sirens blaring in the facility. I remember the door to my cell chamber being opened, and some screaming from other people. I quickly rushed out, running as fast as I could."
As Elliot spoke, his hands trembled, and his eyes darted around the room. Ava's eyes never left her son's face, her expression a mix of concern and fear.
"I made my way to a big door, and with luck, it was open," Elliot continued, his voice shaking. "So I rushed out, running as fast as I could. I found myself in a large greenland, but I couldn't stop running."
Elliot's voice cracked, and he paused, taking a deep breath. General Rose's eyes never left Elliot's face, his expression unreadable.
"I ran as far as I could, as much as I could, until I thought I was away from the facility," Elliot said, his voice barely above a whisper. "What happens next, I don't really remember, but all I know is that I was running home."
As Elliot finished speaking, the room fell silent, the only sound the ticking of the clock on the wall. General Rose's eyes locked onto Elliot's, his expression serious.
"If you say that's what happened, I won't argue with you," General Rose said. "But I still believe that you might have had an awakening."
Ethan's eyes narrowed, his brow furrowed in concern. "What do you mean by 'awakening'?" he asked, his voice firm. General Rose hesitated for a moment before responding.
"I meant, did he somehow gain an ability?" General Rose asked, his eyes locked on Elliot. Ava and Ethan exchanged a confused glance, their faces etched with concern.
"You mean, like a superpower?" Ethan asked, his voice incredulous. "That's impossible. We're Unknowns. We don't gain abilities."
General Rose nodded, his expression serious. "I know that's what you've been told, but the facility Elliot was held in...it's been experimenting on Unknowns, trying to trigger abilities in them. They've been subjecting them to torture, experimentation...hoping that some of them would gain an ability."
Ava's eyes widened in horror, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh my god," she whispered. Ethan's face turned pale, his eyes fixed on General Rose.
"And once they do, they'd use them for their private military assassinations and other purposes," General Rose continued, his voice firm. "That's why it's crucial we get Elliot to a safe location as soon as possible."
The room fell silent, the weight of General Rose's words hanging in the air. Ava and Ethan looked at each other, their faces etched with concern and fear. They turned to Elliot, their eyes searching for answers.
"What do you want us to do?" Ethan asked finally, his voice barely above a whisper. General Rose's expression turned serious.
"I want to recruit Elliot to join our military training school," General Rose said. "It's one of the safest places for him right now. We can protect him there."
Ava's eyes narrowed, her brow furrowed in concern. "And what makes you think he'll be safe there?" she asked, her voice skeptical. General Rose's expression turned confident.
"We have top-notch security and trained personnel who can protect him," General Rose said. "Plus, we can help him develop his...abilities, if he has any."
Elliot's eyes widened, his mind reeling with the implications. He looked at his parents, searching for answers. But they just looked at each other, their faces etched with concern and uncertainty.
As the silence stretched on, General Rose's eyes never left Elliot's face. "So, what do you say, Elliot?" he asked finally, his voice firm but gentle. "Will you join us?"
