The moment I let my power slip, everything changed.
Superman and Wonder Woman weren't the only ones who had noticed.
I could feel them watching. The Justice League. Titans. Even hidden forces lurking in the shadows, analyzing, debating.
Was I a threat? An ally? Something worse?
I didn't intend to wait for them to decide.
If they wanted to question my intentions, I'd give them the answers on my terms.
---
Finding the Justice League wasn't hard. Their Watchtower was in orbit, concealed from the average human. But to someone like me? Their cloaking technology might as well have been a neon sign.
Still, breaking into their base would prove their worst fears correct. Instead, I went for the next best thing: the Hall of Justice.
It stood in Washington, D.C., a monument to heroes and the symbol of trust between the League and the world. But today, it was just another locked door I had to get through.
I stood outside the main entrance, hands in my pockets, staring at the massive insignia on the doors. The air vibrated with hidden defenses sensors, force fields, security measures designed to keep out threats.
I sighed and took a step forward.
Instantly, the doors slammed open.
And standing in the entrance was a welcoming committee I hadn't asked for.
Superman. Wonder Woman. Green Lantern. The Flash. Martian Manhunter. Hawkgirl.
The core of the Justice League, minus Batman. But I already knew he was watching from somewhere.
Their eyes locked onto me, each of them analyzing, assessing.
The silence stretched.
I smirked. "Is this how you welcome all your guests?"
Superman stepped forward. "Not all guests leave a crater in the ground with a single step."
Green Lantern crossed his arms. "And not all guests stroll up to the Hall of Justice like they own the place." His ring hummed, glowing faintly. A warning.
"I figured knocking was too formal," I said casually.
Hawkgirl scoffed. "So what do you want? Because right now, all we see is someone with godlike strength and no oversight."
I released a breath. "I want answers. And I think you do too."
Superman's gaze did not waver. "Answers about what?"
I met his eyes. "What I am."
That got their attention.
Martian Manhunter was the first to respond, his red eyes slitting. I could sense his telepathic touch against my mind probing, testing.
I *closed* him out in a heartbeat.
His eyes opened wider. "Interesting."
I turned to Superman. "I don't have a past. No records, no history. I am, but I shouldn't." I bunched my fists. "And I think you know what it's like."
Superman's expression didn't change, but something flickered in his eyes. Recognition. Understanding.
Wonder Woman stepped forward. "You seek guidance?"
I exhaled. "I seek control."
Another silence.
Then, The Flash broke it. "So let's say we help you. What happens if we don't like the answers we find?"
I met his gaze. "Then you'll have to decide if I'm worth trusting."
Superman studied me for a long moment, then nodded.
"Then let's find out."
And just like that, my fate was in their hands.
For better or worse.
