When he finally regained his composure and tried to argue further,

The doorbell suddenly rang.

Eames strode in boldly.

"Well, well, what do we have here? If it isn't the former Mr. Prescott, CEO."

"What are you doing here looking for my girlfriend?"

I frowned, trying to signal with my eyes for him not to say anything rash.

But Eames raised an eyebrow at me, as if to say "I've got your back, sis."

Cort indeed went berserk.

He stood up and yelled at Eames, "Your girlfriend? She's my darling!"

"Oh? Then let's see that marriage certificate of yours."

"An old divorced man like you has no right to compete with me!"

"What, with that chicken-shit body of yours?"

"Or with those shot kidneys you got from all your cheating?"

"Or are you saying you can afford to buy her a penthouse in New York City?"

His words were like venom. I was worried Cort might keel over,
