Seeing that I remained silent, Elliot hugged me and said casually, "Oh, by the way, I have some good news for you. Summer's baby is still there, she didn't miscarry."
Elliot let out a big sigh of relief, "Thank goodness. I was scared to death."
As soon as his words fell, a chill ran up from the soles of my feet. So all that stuff about her being unable to handle hearing about my pregnancy, attempting suicide - it was all just an act she put on?
And Elliot's first reaction upon finding out wasn't anger, but relief. Relief that her baby was okay.
But what about my baby? My baby is gone.
My stomach cramped, and I couldn't help but gag.
I shoved Elliot away, causing him to bump into the coffee table, which crashed to the floor. The glass shattered into tiny pieces, just like my heart.
"So, she went to all this trouble just to put on this show, to make you tell me to abort the baby I worked so hard for?"
"You actually believed such a clumsy trick?"
"Elliot, do you feel even a shred of regret?"
I clutched my chest; it hurt so badly, ten times worse than the physical pain after my abortion.
What kind of person could do this?
Elliot, however, seemed unfazed.
"Why are you overreacting like this? This isn't her fault at all. It was the doctor who misdiagnosed. What does it have to do with her?
"Your child is already gone. There's no point in pursuing this further."
"Try to look at it from a different perspective. Isn't this a kind of fate? Your child is gone, but Summer's child was saved. Why can't you treat Summer's child as our own in the future?"
My head was about to explode from the pain. I could barely hear what Elliot was saying anymore.
I felt like I was falling apart.
Seeing no reaction from me, Elliot said with a placating expression, "Can we not fight about these things? We'll have children of our own, trust me, okay? Don't you like to travel? I'll go with you. Let's get away and clear your mind. Don't think about unhappy things."
A deathly silence filled my heart as I stared at him with hollow eyes. "Elliot, is Summer's child yours?"
"Let's get a divorce!"
I once gave up my beloved career, my own piece of sky, for Elliot.
Now, to maintain my marriage with Elliot, I gave up my child.
In the end, I'm left with nothing.
I had longed for Elliot to regret his actions, not knowing that I would be the one filled with regret in the end.Love-blinded women are destined to lose everything.
Even though he swore to me that Summer's child had nothing to do with him, he was no longer mine alone.
I packed my bags and left Elliot a divorce agreement. Taking one last look at the house, I realized this place had buried my marriage and love. Five years, and all that was left was a mess.
My phone buzzed with a message from Summer. I had planned to delete and block her, but her message provoked me once again.
With shaking hands, I opened it.
"Did you know that Elliot marrying you was actually just a game, a bet between him and me?"
Summer asked to meet me. Perfect, this situation indeed needed closure.
Summer sat calmly across from me. "Long time no see, Desmond."
She looked me up and down, contempt in her eyes. Stroking her belly, she said in a boastful tone,
"Elliot told you, right? What, aren't you going to congratulate me?"
I couldn't be bothered to spar with her. "You didn't ask me here just to tell me whose child you're carrying, did you? Because if so, I'm out."
As I took a step to leave, Summer's voice rang out,
"He never even liked you. He only confessed to you because I chose you."
Her lips move, delivering a devastating blow.
"He married you because of your wealthy father."
"It's been five years. This game should end now. It's time you returned him to me."
Summer's mouth opens and closes, and I wish at this moment I could be deaf.
"Back then, I looked down on him for being poor, but I couldn't let go of how smart and capable he was, not to mention his good looks and unwavering devotion to me."
"
