Guilt gnawed my chest as I watched my bloodied sister being carried out of the house, my gaze fixated on her limp body as the hammering sound of my heartbeat silenced the conversations around me.
I watched my mother as her mouth open wide, it seems as though she was screaming, she turned towards me her gaze fierce and glaring as she strode towards me.
I opened my mouth to apologize but I was cut off by the pain that made its way to my face as her palm came in contact with my cheek.
The searing pain seemed to do the trick as I could suddenly hear all that was going on.
"You good for nothing girl see what you have done to my child." My mothers voice bellowed the crack in her voice showing her pain.
"I'm sorry." I said holding my face as i seems to have came down from my high anger, my heart lurched as I thought about the possibility of something happening to the child.
"You are sorry." She said with a laugh that held no humour.
"You will be sorry by the time I arrest your useless self." She bellowed as she walked towards the ground grabbing her cellphone which already had a cracked screen.
"Hello Constable." What the hell?
She is calling the police. No I can't get arrested.
What would happen to my plans of being a writer. My life would be over.
I would die.
No no no I can't!
I thought my gaze frantic as my eyes moved throughout the room.
My eyes caught sight of the door and before I could rethink my decision, I bolted for the door my leg taking off in an inhumane speed.
The yells of the few occupants in the room could be heard as they chased me, my feet padded a giant the floor as I ran as though my life depended on it,the wind blowing my hair.
I rushed out of the house gates sweeping through the guards who didn't know why I was running, but the yell of my mother may have informed them of what was going on because they began to chase me too.
I ran away from them, my head turning back from time to time to see the bulky men still on my heels, my chest began to constrict as I began to run out of air as I ran aimlessly not knowing where I was going.
They were slowly catching up to me so I took a leap of fate taking an unknown route I continued to run and finally I saw a black car and without thinking I opened the car and I jumped inside not even thinking about the fact that a random car was opened in the middle of f the road.
I relaxed on the seat taking in a deep breath, but the air was that followed was tainted with the smell of perfume making me to turn my head to the
passenger seat of the car and lo and behold sat two people.
One male and one female both of them disheveled looking like they came out from a fight.
"Who are you?" they both echoed their voices surprise and perplexed. "O my god I'm so sorry my name is Abigail,Abigail Langley and I'm
running from my bodyguards." I half lie as I watch them narrow their eyes at
me. My gaze remained on them as my heart thudded in my chest what if they thought I was thief or worst a murderer.
That wouldn't be a lie.
My mind echoed as I took in a deep breath the smell of perfume and fine leather wafting into my nose.
"So you are a Langley." they guy questioned breaking me out of my inner battle as he narrowed his eyes at me and I knew he bought it the Langley's where rising in the social circle but due to my sister Olivia who I probably just murdered her child we were pretty known.
"Well I'm Caine and she is Lila." The guy said and I nodded before moving my gaze to the blonde lady beside him.
"So what do you want?" She questioned as she sneered at me her gaze judgmental.
"Please do you know where I can stay the night just till this blows over I don't want them finding me so a hotel is a bad idea." I begged as I looked at their faces trying to decipher their thoughts.
"Well, I think I know somewhere you can go." Caine said as he turned his head towards Lila before sending her a mischievous glance and now I was scared.
Caine nodded as Lila raised an eyebrow as if questioning are you sure . "Hold on," he said, starting the engine.
As we zoomed off, I couldn't shake off the feeling of regret, unease and guilt. The estate seemed blurred outside the window, a mix of light and shadows.
We pulled up to a grand estate, as the gates swung open swung open to reveal a sleek, modern mansion. Caine turned off the engine, and Lila exited the car.
"Welcome to your temporary refuge, Abigail," Caine said, opening my door.
I came down from the car my gaze still roaming around the beautiful house.
"Who owns this?" I questioned turning towards them for an answer. "My elder brother." Caine murmured causing me to snap my neck
towards him.
"What the hell, it isn't even yours!" I exclaimed as I turned around ready to go back to were I came from.
"Calm down girl, Christian never visits this house, so you can have it all to yourself don't just steal or destroy anything." Lila said her voice dry and uninterested.
"Oh I murmur," as I considered giving in.
"So what do you say?" Caine asked his voice expectant as I nodded a shy smile on my face.
"Good now go on in." The passcode to his door is 2012"
"My birthday!" Lila said with a smile her eyes glinting with something akin to happiness.
"You were born 2012?" I questioned confused.
"No bitch I was born 20th December." She snapped and I nodded. "I was born 25th December I murmured.
"Nobody cares!" Lila added as Caine hit her arm lightly "that's not a nice thing to say." he added.
I don't care because it was true everyone was too worried about Christmas to actually care about my birthday it has always been like that and will always be.
"Umm.. can you tell me where my room is or something." "Nothing like that just go in and feel at home." Caine said
….
And that is what I did,I thought as I sauntered throughout the house my leg clad in comfortable socks and a huge t-shirt I found in the master bedroom as I stuffed my face with cheese while doing a moon walk on the marble floor.
"Alexa!" I yelled "play Fire to the Rain by Adele."
And the song began as I moved around the house gliding on the marble floor and stuffing my face with chips as I swayed my hips from side to side enjoying the freedom.
"And I set fire to rain Watch it fall
As I touched your face Well it burned…
I yelled moving around the sitting room.
"There is a side of you that I never knew all the things you said there were never true never true."
I continued still gliding towards the huge double door spinning around and suddenly I heard a deep voice bellow over the music."
"Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house?"
Oh fuck
