Universe Force Invasion

Nathan spent few minutes lying on the ground and leaning against the wall. He tried to recover some of his energy, but with the severity of his injuries, it was hard. The pain was the only thing keeping him conscious.

He put in some effort and was struggling hard to get up when a loud sound, resembling a ring of bell echoed. It appeared as if the sound was coming from all directions. The sound was impossible to miss and it was like as if it is striking the soul of a person.

Nathan was confused about the source of the sound and tried to look around him, even if it was futile to do so in the dark alley.

He had not discovered anything, when suddenly, something flashed before his eyes- a transparent, square-shaped screen had appeared in front of him.

Nathan felt confused and rubbed his eyes. He wondered if his head injuries were causing hallucinations. But before he could understand or process anything, the space before him began to twist. A tear then appeared in the space, and a human-sized portal of pitch-black colour opened at a distance of few feet from him.

Before Nathan's astonished eyes, a pair of pitch black hands emerged from the portal. The hands widened the portal, and an entire humanoid-shaped creature emerged from it.

What emerged from the portal was unlike anything Nathan had ever seen. Though humanoid in shape, the creature was pitch black with patches of red on its skin. The facial features of the creature was not defined and only its long nose was distinguishable feature of its face.

In its hand, the creature carried a short dagger made of an unknown material.

The message on the screen now made sense to Nathan—it was referring to this abaration.

Nathan's senses screamed danger, and he wanted to run away as fast as he could, but his injured body did not allow him to do so.

The creature walked toward Nathan, and though its face was indiscernible, Nathan could feel the grin on its face.

Nathan felt enraged and his heart burned in fury. Was his destiny always to be trampled upon? Was his fate to always be the weaker party? To be crushed below the foot of others?

The creature approached slowly and stood close. It raised its dagger and thrust it toward Nathan's heart.

"Even if I die, I will die fighting," roared Nathan. "I am going to kill you. I will not be bullied anymore… Never in my life will I back down!"

Mustering the last bit of strength in his body, Nathan tilted his body slightly. The dagger missed its mark as it grazed his left arm and grunt of pain left Nathan's mouth.

Even do he did not stop. Not giving the creature any time to react, Nathan struck his right arm against the creature's wrist, dislodging the dagger from its grip.

Nathan lunged for the dagger, throwing his injured body towards it. He fell squarely on the ground near the dagger. He extended his hand to pick it up, but before he could touch it, a heart-wrenching pain shot through his back.

He screamed in agony and turned his neck to see the creature's claws had pierced his back, and its face had been twisted into a sinister smirk.

Raging inside, Nathan mustered enough courage to grab the dagger and swung it wildly. The creature was unable to react in time, and the dagger plunged into its neck. The neck had been severed halfway from the head as dark maroon blood gurgled from the cut, and the creature fell with a thud.

Nathan was unable to react to these messages as he felt his breath leaving his body. He lost consciousness and teetered on the verge of death.

Nathan's body, lying unconscious on the ground, started to change. All his bruises and cuts—including the large gash on his back made by the abaration—began healing. In moments, Nathan's entire body became as normal as it could be.

His entire body structure underwent a transformation. His height increased, now easily reaching 6 feet 2 inches.

Nathan fluttered his eyes open and immediately sat up. It took him moments to realize what had happened, and he felt nauseous at the sight of the dead creature lying before him.

He checked the messages on the transparent panel and gathered his thoughts.

The panel changed to display:

Nathan stood and looked at the dead creature's body. He understood what he had to do. He picked up the dagger and slashed open the creature's chest. A pitch-black, fist-sized crystal emerged from within.

Nathan pulled it out and clenched it tightly in his hands. He felt a warm sensation flowing through his body—something strengthening him.

"This must be the Universe Force," muttered Nathan.

In moments, all the Universe Force inside the crystal was absorbed by Nathan and the crystal turned to dust.

Nathan felt changes in his body, especially near his chest. He sensed something forming next to his heart.

It was his Universe Force Crystal. It would be completely formed once he reached Level 1.

Nathan could feel that he would need much more energy to fully form the crystal. But he realised one thing, this was beginning of a new journey for him.
