Chapter 191: The Two-Year Training Plan
That night, a bright moon rose over the sea, its silver light scattering across the surface in shimmering waves.
Splash!
The Merry broke through the water's surface and floated up. The membrane, which had been shimmering with an iridescent light, popped and shattered.
The coating had a time limit. Even with Rayleigh's superb skills, it was impossible to turn the ship into a permanent submarine.
After leaving a certain range of Impel Down, the group had the ship surface.
On the Merry.
Nami stood by the railing of the second-floor dining room's balcony. After calibrating the direction with the Eternal Pose, she handed over the ship's controls to Reiner's undead.
Today, she wore a white pleated short skirt with a short-sleeved blue shirt, a small, light-yellow tie knotted at the collar.
"After tonight, there will only be four days left until Ace's public execution."
Nami picked up the sea chart and looked at it, thinking for a while. "It's a good thing our ship has a power system. We can probably rest at Amazon Lily for a day or two and still make it to Marineford in time."
After roughly calculating the time, she rolled up the sea chart, held it behind her back, and took small steps over to Reiner.
Nami lowered her head, wrapped her arms through his, and hugged him, burying her face in Reiner's chest.
A refreshing fragrance washed over him. Reiner subconsciously put his hand on her slender waist and pulled her closer, a warmth spreading from his embrace throughout his body.
"Can we not do such risky things in the future? I was clearly so close to you, but I couldn't help at all. I don't like this feeling," Nami said in a low voice.
In the past, with the power of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, she could handle most enemies with ease. It had been a month since she ate the Devil Fruit, and she had been diligently developing her abilities.
But this trip to Impel Down, whether it was Magellan, Garp, or even Kizaru who arrived later, they were all enemies she was completely powerless against.
She could only pray and wait for him to come back, unable to do anything. A deep sense of powerlessness welled up in her heart.
"Next, we're going to Marineford. We'll face even more, and stronger, enemies. At that time, I..."
"It's alright, Nami."
Reiner's palm soothed her back as he said softly, "You've already done very well. Without you, we wouldn't have even been able to get here."
"Don't put everything on your own shoulders. If even fighting requires you to stand in front of everyone, then wouldn't we seem very useless?"
Reiner chuckled, then lowered his head. "What, are you trying to seize all the power? A little navigator, planning a mutiny?"
"What are you talking about?"
Nami giggled and let go, patting his chest with one palm. "I'm serious. We're always standing behind you. We also want to be able to help when you need it."
"Mm, I know. We've been moving too fast on this journey. It's time to slow down a bit."
Reiner ruffled her head, took her hand, and walked towards the dining room. "Let's go get ready to eat. I have something to propose to everyone."
Nami wasn't the only one with this thought; the others were the same. Although everyone had their own duties and performed their jobs flawlessly...
...adventuring on this sea, as pirates, they couldn't avoid conflict.
Trusting one's comrades, leaving enemies they couldn't handle to stronger teammates – there was nothing wrong with that. But no one was content with being a burden.
Even Usopp, who was in the late stages of 'I'll-die-if-I-set-foot-on-an-island disease', had a desire to improve.
Creak~~
He opened the door and walked into the dining room. Everyone was there.
Robin sat reading a book on the sofa in the corner. Sanji was busy in the kitchen. The others were sitting around the dining table. Reiner and Nami found a random spot and sat down.
Luffy and Brook were already seated, tapping their knives and forks, continuously making crisp clanging sounds as they urged for food.
"Dinner, dinner, dinner..."
"Coming, coming! Can't you be quiet, you idiot? You have no table manners at all."
Sanji came out of the kitchen with two large platters of food, looking impatient.
Large pieces of tender meat were neatly arranged, with various colorful vegetables surrounding them, steeped in a fragrant gravy.
"Wow, it looks so delicious!!"
The moment the food was put down, Luffy couldn't wait and reached out, spearing a large piece of meat and stuffing it into his mouth.
Sanji: "Robin-chwan~~, come and eat~~."
"Mm, I'm coming," Robin smiled faintly, stood up, and came to join them.
Everyone was seated, and soon the entire dining room was filled with laughter and cheerful voices. The bright light from the Light Dials filled the entire cabin, adding a touch of warmth to the sea under the night sky.
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, and several undead were clearing the dishes to wash them, Reiner suddenly spoke, "Everyone, I have something to tell you."
"What is it, Reiner?"
"What's wrong?"
Hearing his words, several people looked over curiously, puzzled.
After everyone had quieted down, Reiner slowly proposed the two-year training plan and explained his previous conversation with Kuma.
From setting out from the East Blue until now, it hadn't even been three months.
Compared to their greenness at the beginning, they had all grown considerably, both in strength and in mindset.
But this alone was not enough. Besides Reiner, the strength of the others was still too strained to face the New World, which was full of powerful individuals.
Encountering some of the stronger powers, the trio of Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji could only barely hold their own. The others had to rack their brains just not to be a burden.
Even Reiner himself was still some distance from the top-tier powerhouses.
Not to mention having to look out for others. And no one wanted to hide behind him forever.
After he finished speaking, the dining room fell silent. Everyone lowered their heads, lost in thought.
In the first half of the Grand Line, their journey had been very smooth. They hadn't thought much about this matter before.
But today, after witnessing true powerhouses, they also deeply understood their own shortcomings.
If it were any other pirate crew, it would be one thing. But they were famous for causing trouble.
Especially Luffy, who could attract major incidents if they took their eyes off him for a second. The group knew this well.
With their current strength entering the New World, the setbacks of today would be repeated endlessly.
No one could guarantee that they would come out unscathed every time. Luffy wasn't being willful either; he knew what Reiner said was the truth.
At certain critical moments, he knew what needed to be done.
"Luffy, what do you say?"
Zoro glanced at him, and the others also shifted their gazes over.
They knew Reiner's intentions were good, and they also knew this was a wise choice, but everyone still had to respect the captain's opinion.
"Although I really like adventure, but..."
Luffy looked up and grinned. "The most important thing is that we can all be together. We are indeed still too weak. Risking everyone's lives... I don't want that."
Hearing this, the others all smiled faintly.
Although no one spoke again, it seemed... the decision had been made in silent, mutual agreement.
