The next morning, Gabriel woke to an unexpected visitor.
Aurelia Voss stood at the foot of his bed, arms crossed.
"Get dressed," she said. "We're going on a trip."
He groggily sat up. "What kind of trip?"
"One that could get both of us killed."
That woke him up.
Fifteen minutes later, he found himself in an underground transport tunnel, sitting across from Aurelia inside a sleek, black hover-car. The vehicle moved smoothly through the tunnel, passing through rings of glowing blue glyphs that pulsed with energy.
"Where are we going?" he asked.
Aurelia kept her gaze forward. "Somewhere the Academy doesn't want students to know about."
That didn't sound ominous at all.
She finally glanced at him. "You're not like the others, Gabriel. You don't just accept things at face value. And yesterday… I saw what you did."
Gabriel stiffened. "You mean—"
"You hacked the System, didn't you?"
He hesitated, then nodded. There was no point in lying.
Instead of being alarmed, Aurelia smiled. "Good. Then you might be ready for what I'm about to show you."
