She never knew she only did
That night was probably the worse night of Hazel's life. That night she helped her first love safely pass beyond the veil.
Just as the imp had told Rosa Hazel controlled such things. She held authority over fate and all the things within fates web. The problem was she was still young and her. Body was weak. She was working on her body with the dragons but she refused to accelerate her aging.
She already understood incantations and spellwork that actually should have been beyond her. Still fate was a time based magic and she needed the years and what they bestowed to her body before she could manipulate the entire web of fate and time properly and safely.
She had been deep in thought as Michael and his family spoke on the dreamscape, she was going to allow something rare, and a little forbidden, and allow Michael's family to actually see him through the veil.
She suddenly sensed an odd intrusion within her personal scape. It was a call. Shyla appeared, hovering beside her.
They both narrowed their eyes when they saw Michael waver a bit. Hazel knew instantly that someone was trying to call him.
They looked to each other and spoke in unison "Rosa!" Michael's eyes widened as he heard them.
Shyla shook her head, her beautiful song angry and chaotic as she complained about Rosa's foolishness. Both she and Hazel could sense the oddness of this call. It took a moment to understand why it was so odd, but now, knowing it was Rosa, they both understood all too well.
Rosa was doing something she had not fully grasped or understood.
The call was tearing at Michael and an eerie, echoing scream tried to shatter the dreamscape.
Hazel and Shyla jumped into action. Shyla began stabilizing Michael and Hazel reinforced her dreamscape. She looked to Michael's family, anger and regret fighting for dominance in her expression.
"He has to go now. His existence is already to fragile. If she even tears one more shred from him he will not be able to pass through the veil."
All his family stood in anger and shock, almost for a moment too long. Michael's mother looked to her.
"Save my son."
Hazel nodded and pulled out both of her wands. They were not as complimentary as she would have liked but they had both chosen her and because od this they worked together to ensure her will was forced into existence.
Each of her hands worked on its one, yet in tandem, they both wove intricate patterns into the air. Her voice became ethereal and then one became as she spoke a word and a phrase of power, both at the same time.
"Curare." "perge et incolumitas"
The veil before them rippled slightly as it responded to her commands and awaited who or what she was sending forth. Her hands continued to move intricately with her En wand stopping on the veil and her Tann wand stopping on Michael. Green energies burst forth from both and she fought to maintain control over the vast amount of power she was releasing.
Then she felt Rosa's attempts again but before she could react Michael's mother had her wand out and had already cast two protection spells around her son and sent a defensive spell down the call and back to Rosa.
She hoped deep in her heart that Rosa was not using someone to do this for her and that she could hurt or even kill this selfish little horror.
Hazel had raised her eyebrow at this but maintained her focus as Michael was lifted and drawn toward the veil. It seemed incredibly slow since she was maintaining an equilibrium that was extremely taxing.
As he moved toward the veil they all sensed the ripples of the call again. Shyla, frustrated and annoyed, moved forward and sent a curse back down the call.
"Humans are too nice. You'd rather she kill us than just deal with her."
Hazel said nothing as she watched Michael's form touch the veil. The veil excepted him and the call was disconnected from him. Everything calmed and he looked to Hazel with a sad smile.
Then he was gone.
It took a while for everyone to collect themselves and as soon as they did Marcel was in front of her with wide eyes.
"Evervine will kill me! She said not a hair on your head could be harmed.'
Hazel frowned. "I am not hurt."
"Look at your hair. It's green!"
Hazel frowned again and a gilded mirror appeared before her. Her eyebrows rose as she saw herself with a large swath of her brown hair turned green on either side of her face.
She nodded in appreciation.
"It looks okay. I think it matches Harry's eyes. Evervine will like it."
"But why?"
"It is probably a form of backlash due to me being too young to control the veil." She shrugged. "I'll take this type of backlash any day. Mum won't be happy though."
Just as she was finished speaking the dreamscape shook and wide cracks formed. She looked to Shyla who disappeared. Hazel looked to the others.
"I am sorry everyone. It seems you will need to leave. Rosa wants to talk." She shrugged nonchalantly. "Maybe fight." And she sent them all out.
Marcel sat straight up in his bed. Harry, Fred, George, and Ron were all wide awake. Harry and George moved to leave the room when Marcel spoke.
"She didn't return with me. Rosa attacked and she sent me and my family out of the dreamscape to protect us.
"Everything was shattering. I don't there is anything to return to right now."
Harry and George looked at each other and raced from the room together.
Rosa had black scales on half of her face. The result of the curse Shyla sent back down the call. She had no idea why or how it happened but she wanted to destroy who ever had done it.
She had forgotten that she had been trying to bring Michael to here and that she had wanted him so badly that she had stopped sleeping at night. Now her vanity had taken over and all she knew was rage.
When she sent her shattering curse through she thought it would just be someone's soul shattering. She had hoped it would be his mother's, since the cow was always determined to have her and Michael a part, or Hazel's.
But she instantly knew she had messed up as the main branch home of the Ambrose family began to shake and threatened to even crumble. She heard the screams of her family and she knew that she would be in trouble again.
She was underground and thought the massive building would collapse on her as more and more of the ceiling fell in on her.
Then she saw it. It was a mass of tendrils that moved out from the point of the of impact from made by her incantation. They moved out and radiated throughout and up into the building and everything quieted.
Hazel walked through a gap at the center of the tendrils, anger plain on her face. She stepped out and into the room and focused on Rosa.
"Why is it that you so badly want me to hurt you? Why do you want me to react to all of your stupidity.
"I work to save Michael and you work to destroy him." Tears welled up I. Her eyes as she spoke, hovering above Rosa. "I had to send him through the veil because he woke that doll you want to use against me. He woke her and she found him interesting and almost consumed him.
"Now you have destroyed something I created with my mind, magic, and being.
"I am here Rose. To finally give you what you want."
Suddenly her ebon wand was in her hand. She quickly wove an intricate pattern in the air with it. The word of power seemed to fly from her lips as if it had been eagerly awaiting its turn to shine.
"Cognosco!"
Rosa's body went rigid as a red bolt of lightning struck her on the top of her head. The scales on her face vanished as a hot jagged mark traveled down her body from the top of her head to the sole of her right foot. Some parts were wide and some were thin and the entire thing looked painful as if it were burning into her being.
Before the scar made it to her calf she passed out.
Hazel looked at her prone form for a long time and then she slowly turned and walked back to the rift Rosa caused. She almost decided to leave everything as it was but she heard people moving about.
She waved her wand slowly before she spoke softly.
"Redire"
The house quieted and the foundation stabilized as everything returned to normal.
In the silence Rosa lay on the floor unconscious and Hazel was no where to be seen
