Chapter 22: The Broker’s Test

Jihan stood amidst fallen bodies, his breathing heavy but controlled. The enforcers groaned in pain, sprawled across the warehouse floor. Only one remained standing—the hooded figure known as the Broker.

The tension in the air was suffocating.

The Broker stepped forward, clapping slowly. "Not bad," they mused. "You're not just a reckless thug. You're calculated. Efficient."

Jihan wiped blood from his lip. "If you wanted to test me, you should've sent stronger men."

A chuckle. "You misunderstand."

The Broker gestured.

The warehouse lights flickered, and dozens of new figures emerged from the shadows. Armed. Trained. Dangerous.

Jihan tensed. This wasn't just another ambush.

The Broker's voice was calm. "This is your real test."

The Next Wave

Jihan analyzed the situation. Fifteen. No—twenty opponents.

All equipped with blunt weapons—bats, knives, and brass knuckles. Some even carried tasers.

He needed a plan. Fast.

The first attacker rushed in. Jihan shifted, dodging a wild swing and retaliating with a brutal kick to the knee.

Crack. The man collapsed, screaming.

Another lunged—Jihan grabbed his wrist, twisting it violently. The knife clattered to the ground before Jihan drove a punch into his solar plexus.

The next two charged at once.

Jihan dodged left, slamming an elbow into one's temple. He then used the momentum to sweep the other's legs.

The warehouse erupted into chaos.

A War of Attrition

The battle dragged on, each moment testing Jihan's endurance. His body ached, bruises forming from the relentless assault.

An opponent caught him off-guard, landing a baton strike against his ribs.

Pain exploded through his side, but he pushed forward. Endure. Counter. Break.

His movements became sharper. His strikes, more brutal.

He tore through the enforcers, leaving broken bodies in his wake. Ten left. Eight. Five.

Soon, only one remained.

Jihan panted, sweat dripping down his face. The last man hesitated, fear evident in his stance.

Jihan cracked his knuckles. "Run."

The enforcer bolted.

A Deal with the Devil

The Broker clapped once more. "Impressive."

Jihan turned, his eyes sharp. "Enough games. What do you want?"

The Broker finally stepped forward, lowering their hood.

Jihan's eyes widened. A woman.

She smirked. "Surprised?"

Jihan remained silent.

The Broker continued, "The Syndicate isn't your biggest threat. The real enemy lies above them."

Jihan narrowed his gaze. "Then tell me who."

She tilted her head. "I will… but only if you work with me."

Jihan clenched his fists. He didn't trust her. But if she had information on the real power behind the Syndicate, he couldn't ignore it.

"Fine," he said. "But if you betray me—"

The Broker laughed. "Don't worry. If I betray you… you won't live long enough to regret it."

Jihan exhaled, tension still thick in the air.

A new alliance had formed. But was it a trap?
