Mirage's mocking voice resounded in his mind as he sneaked around the fire lizard, slashing and ducking.
"Did you expect it to continue cutting through anything in the world. What do you think it was? There might be some artifacts that allow mortals to kill sages, but this isn't it. And even they usually come with a steep price."
Reign filled that information in his mind for later, the fire lizard had been weakened by the loss of it's tail. It could now only use its mouth and fireballs to fight him.
Reign had grown cautious, he watched out for it's tricks with the fireball, preserving force to leap away in case a third, fourth or fifth shot at him.
He felt his battle experience grow as he fought the beast. He had only been saved one more time by Ravena and finally he found a chance.
He waited at the moment the fire lizard sent a barrage of four fireballs. He leapt up to avoid the first one, slid under the second, slashed the third with his sword and tanked the fourth one.
There fire lizard paused after the barrage and Reign took advantage. He flashed to the side of the fire lizard, it's tail was not there to hit him this side but he didn't risk.
He swiped his sword and cut through it's leg. The fire lizard collapsed on it's side, unable to bear it. Reign, seeing this flashed to it's head and raised his sword, planning to end for once for all.
He made the mistake of looking into it's eyes as he moved to kill it. He saw something he had never thought he would ever see in a beast. He saw the fierceness of a beast but behind it he saw a quiet acceptance of death.
Reign felt his sword pause, he felt it was really a waste to kill this beast. This beast had been able to greatly increase his battle experience.
Giving him a valuable start in his journey, he felt that it would be too much to just kill it. However he knew that he couldn't also keep it alive.
There was definitely no place for mercy in situation in like this. He could feel Ravena looking expectantly at him.
Reign sighed in his mind and suppressed the uncomfortable feeling in his heart. He moved to lower his blade and end the beast.
Suddenly, he felt a mysterious impulse rise from his heart. A bunch of words slipped from his mind and a formidable draconic aura emanated from his body.
The syllables were strange, archaic and ancient, they resounded in the cavern with a thrum of power and prestige, as if they carried profound and unknown secrets.
Ravena who was watching from the side had a shocked expression on her face, "Draconic Magic." She never thought Rein could know such a thing.
A mysterious energy rose from Rein and invaded the Fire Lizard below him. The fire lizard which had been quietly waiting for death suddenly felt a fierce, formidable aura from Rein. It triggered instinct from its body and it couldn't help but huddle.
It felt a mysterious force enter its body and imprint on its essence, subtly connecting it to the being in front.
Sensing a chance to live, the lizard quickly accepted the force and it was bound to the being in front both body and essence.
The strange ceremony ended, and Reign suddenly felt a strange connection to the fire lizard in front of him. He also felt a stream of knowledge surge into his mind.
This was an innate ability. As dragons grew, they would sometimes be kicked out of their nests to fend for themselves. Thus from a juvenile age they gained the ability to subdue other beings to be their minions.
The dragons would empower them with their dragon blood and aura, and protect them from enemies. In turn the minions would serve the dragon.
As they grew this ability would grow stronger and stronger until a dragon could have an entire nation of minions.
The ceremony Rein had carried out was a contract which could be used a few times. It connected the dragon and a minion, ensuring they couldn't betray the dragon.
In turn they would be one of the dragon's closest minions, profiting from the dragon's heritage and talent, effectively turning into a half dragon.
Mirage's voice chimed In his head, "Damn, I didn't think you'd actually inherit that. You actually used it on a lizard."
She sounded exasperated. Ravena too came to his side, she looked at him as if he was a some strange organism.
He didn't like the strange glint in her eyes, as if she wanted to cut him up and look inside.
She retracted the strange gaze and asked, "Was that a minion contract?"
Reign nodded.
"You actually used it on a lizard?" Reign almost pulled his hair, why were these two echoing each other?
Ravena seemed to feel his frustration. She laughed and said,
"Do you know how valuable that is. Many people; even some legend powerhouses would give an arm and a leg to receive the dragon contract. Do you know why?"
Reign shook his head. Of course he didn't know why.
Ravena peered at him and said.
"Dragons are one of the strongest species in existence. They are tier 2 at birth, Tier 3 as adolescents and epic as a young adult. Any random adult dragon is a legendary being. If they don't get themselves killed they are Mythical beings at 1000 years old.
A dragon can live for thousands of years. A human legend can live for a maximum of five hundred without any extra help. A contract with a dragon extends that to more than a thousand, at minimum. So you'd see why it would be valuable. Potential and lifespan? people would kill for that in a heartbeat"
Reign felt his mind almost explode at that information. What did she mean live for thousands of years
He turned to her in shock, "People live for thousands of years."
