Chapter 6: On the Correct Posture of Reading a Book

The black wand gave Zheng Fan a feeling of heaviness, power, and profoundness.

In contrast, this white one was the exact opposite.

It was cold, sharp, and light, like a fierce gale laden with sharp ice shards. Just looking at this wand, one could sense the intense aggressiveness emanating from it!

"Linden wood and a dragon's heartstring. By the way, this wand is a twin to the one in your hand. They were made from the materials of the same dragon, a terrifying creature of an ancient and unknown breed. It wasn't killed but died from a magical backlash after attempting an unknown spell. Most of its materials were confiscated by the Ministry of Magic, and I used the remaining bits to make these two wands." Mr. Ollivander explained dutifully.

Zheng Fan didn't say a word. He directly reached out his hand and picked up this wand as well.

Mr. Ollivander opened his mouth, about to say something, but then just stood there, stunned.

Under everyone's gazes, a silver cyclone rose from the white wand in Zheng Fan's left hand. The cyclone swirled around his left arm like a shield, making a shrill sound as it tore through the air.

Meanwhile, black mist also rose from the black wand in his right hand, slowly spreading out to envelop his right arm.

"Two wands recognizing the same wizard simultaneously? This is impossible! It's never happened in history!" Mr. Ollivander exclaimed in surprise.

Zheng Fan shrugged and casually stuck the two wands into his left and right pockets. "Well, it's happening today, Mr. Ollivander. I'm very satisfied with these two wands. I'll take them both. How much are they?"

With his mouth wide open, Mr. Ollivander stared at Zheng Fan with a look of utter disbelief. After a long while, he finally said woodenly, "...After witnessing such a miraculous event, I'm not going to charge any labor fees. Just the cost price, thirty Galleons."

Zheng Fan made a pained, rueful expression.

He'd only received thirty-five Galleons from Dumbledore in total. Enrolling at Hogwarts required more than just a wand. He also needed robes and textbooks, especially the textbooks, which were incredibly expensive.

Originally, he'd thought about asking the old man if he could pay in installments, maybe with something like Ant Credit Pay or JD IOU (Chinese online credit payment methods), but he knew it was impossible.

Moreover, there was a little girl watching him. One can lose one's head, but one's hairstyle must stay intact. That's what being a man is all about.

Thinking of this, Zheng Fan reluctantly took out thirty gold coins and gave them to Mr. Ollivander.

After walking out of the wand shop, Zheng Fan looked at the mere five Galleons left in his pocket and looked utterly dejected.

Hermione and her family followed him out. Her parents smiled at him. They'd noticed Zheng Fan's predicament, and Mr. Granger kindly offered to lend him some money, but Zheng Fan refused.

As a time-traveler with ideals and aspirations, it would be a disgrace to sink to the point of borrowing money.

Well, he'd completely forgotten about the time he'd borrowed money from Dumbledore.

Since Hermione's first stop was also to buy a wand and their subsequent tasks were similar (purchasing all the remaining school essentials), Hermione's family decided to go with Zheng Fan. At Hermione's strong request, the second destination was set as Flourish and Blotts.

It happened to be the place Zheng Fan least wanted to come to right now.

When Hermione entered the sparsely - populated Flourish and Blotts, her eyes were immediately fixed on the rows of books on the shelves and she rushed over without hesitation.

Zheng Fan followed behind with a smile and also came to the bookshelf.

The covers of the rows of books on the bookshelf were all similar in color. Books in this era didn't have so many fancy covers. They were basically plain - colored. Without looking at the gilded words on the spines, it was hard to tell one book from another. However, for Zheng Fan, this wasn't a difficult thing. He activated [Eagle - Eye Vision] for just a second and found the few books he needed.

The first one was *Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1*, the first book required for Hogwarts freshmen.

The book was quite thick and looked like it could be used as a brick.

This was Zheng Fan's first reaction.

It was priced at seven Galleons. I can't afford it at all, damn it!

This was Zheng Fan's second reaction.

He really wanted to go back in time. When Dumbledore gave him the money, as soon as the old man said, 'Thirty - five Galleons will cover your expenses,' he wanted to hurl a [hex] at his face.

Not to mention that he had spent a fortune on two wands. Even if he had only bought one, the remaining money wouldn't be enough to purchase all the goods!

Probably noticing Zheng Fan's expression, Mr. Granger slowly walked over and bent down to whisper in Zheng Fan's ear, "Hey, young man, let me lend you some money. Your expression is so familiar to me. Every time I go out for a drink without money, I have the same expression as you."

"What? You actually went out for a drink?" Mrs. Granger immediately got upset.

Zheng Fan looked at the couple with a smile. He knew they were trying to ease his embarrassment so that he wouldn't feel shy about borrowing money, but this time he really wouldn't borrow.

Not enough money? The books are too expensive? Are these even problems? Hell no!!

Zheng Fan walked up to the bookshelf with a straight face, reached out and picked up *Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1*. He opened it with a snap and then started flipping through the pages at a breakneck speed.

"Um... What are you doing?" Mr. Granger looked utterly confused.

Hermione, who was nearby, was also attracted by the commotion. She turned her head and saw Zheng Fan standing in front of the bookshelf, flipping through the book in his hand non - stop like a page - turning machine. He only stopped for about half a second on each page before flipping it over with a swish.

She had a strange look on her face - what kind of way of reading was this? Was Zheng Fan practicing his page - flipping speed? Who would practice such a thing?

The manager of the bookstore also frowned and walked over.

Looking at Zheng Fan's actions, he was very displeased. Books were sacred things that brought people knowledge. How could they become toys in this kid's hands?

He must be a poor guy from the countryside. He can't even read, yet he still acts like he's reading and is just posing here. How stupid he is!

On the other hand, Zheng Fan showed no sign of stopping. After flipping through one book, he let out a long sigh and picked up another book called *A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration*. He started flipping through it as fast as before, just like he did with the previous one.

As he picked up the third book, the manager finally couldn't stand it anymore and strode over.

"Hey, kid, stop! Do you want to turn these books into waste paper? If you think being able to flip through books makes you a knowledgeable person, you're terribly wrong! Learn what it means to read a book first before you come here and pretend to be something you're not!"

"Huh?" Suddenly interrupted when he was flipping through the book, Zheng Fan frowned and looked at the man.

Then he turned to Hermione and asked, "Who the heck is this guy?"
