Rani Abbakka Chowta, the fearless Queen of Ullal, was one of India’s earliest female freedom fighters who resisted Portuguese colonial rule in the 16th century. Trained in warfare and statecraft, she led her army and navy in fierce battles, using guerrilla tactics to defend her kingdom. Despite repeated attacks, Ullal remained unconquered under her rule. However, she was eventually betrayed by her own people and captured. While some accounts say she died in captivity, others believe she escaped and continued her fight. Her legacy lives on as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and resistance.
