Right up until the night before the annual meeting, Gunner was still anxiously double-checking every detail, reviewing the PowerPoint presentation one last time in the study.


After he fell asleep, I entered the room, swapped the USB drive in his briefcase with another, and carefully put it back in its original place.


Standing silently by the bedside in the darkness, I gazed at the peacefully sleeping face and smiled softly.
