Felix and Ben stood at the door, there was a window by the door and Ben tipped on his toes to get a look inside. It was empty and then he saw someone that crouched in the corner. He scanned the room where ever his eyes could take him and he saw about three students.
"Those bastards" Ben gritted his teeth while he cursed. He stood back flat on his feet and then taking a step back from the door and then he lifted his leg and gave the door a hard kick. Felix could hear the infected students got agitated as their howls could be heard.
" Go away" a weeping voice said from behind the door. Ben ignored the plea of whomever that was on the other side and kicked it again. Felix could tell that Ben wasn't even thinking straight as he attempted to kick the door again. Suddenly a loud sound pierced through the air, the sound of the bell. There mind abundant the thought of thinking and their hearts forgot to beat. They felt a heavy feeling that squeezed their chest as there breath quicken and then looked at the bell that was only a little distance from them above their heads.
"Shit" Felix cursed as he looked at the bell. No one had even thought about how fast they would have to move to complete the mission. They thought of a plan to help themselves, but it wasn't discussed throughoutly and now they had to face the consequences. They were now living in a world with no manuscript. They needed to learn quickly and adapt or else they would die.
The infected stomped their way to the sound of the echoing bell, their calling. Both ends were hurriedly being swarmed by the infected as they could see the dancing shadows approaching. Ben started kicking the door relentlessly as a last act of desperation. Felix didn't know what to do now, both ends were now blocked and the people inside the broadcasting room wasn't opening up.
" Am I going to die?" Felix questioned himself. Felix's eye caught sight of a window that wasn't too far from where he stood and a thought came into mind.
"Damn it" Ben cursed. Felix then pulled his collar as he ran off and Ben staggered looking up at him before following. Felix made a fist and punched the glass window, giving it three blows before it shattered. Ben now noticed what was happening. Ben thought Felix was either desperate, didn't think things through or a maniac. The infected horrific howls and groans could be heard as the got closer, trampling on one another as if it was a race. Felix and Ben saw the first few infected sliding around the corner, charging forward with their bloodied bodies and wide open mouths. But even so Ben couldn't put his thoughts to jump from such a high place, so many things could go wrong. He could break a bone, trip, get surrounded by the infected or even worst all of the above. If they jumped they would have the run the instant their feet made contact with the floor, but he had no time or idea for a better solution.
"We're too high up, what if we- ", but before Ben could finish voicing his opinion Felix leaped through the window. Ben felt his heart rate quicken, fearing that Felix might break a bone or die. Felix landed on the floor and rolled immediately and within the same second he started running without looking behind. Ben was in awe of Felix's speed as he ran leaving the infected behind that were chasing him. Ben saw the infected students closing the distance on him and one stomped to his feet. Seeing that he would die either way he jumped through the window and crashed to the floor. He took no time to adjust himself and started moving.
"Luckily Felix went first" Ben thought seeing that there weren't many infected, but then felt uncomfortable because as now he felt like he had just sacrificed someone to live. Felix didn't know where he was going but all he knew was that he needed to keep running. Davia looked above her head and the bell was beating through the air and now fear spread through her body. Misty already felt something amidst as she started to separate from the others whimpering in tears. As Davia and Dave looked before them the infected started storming towards them, sending them in a panic to start running. Staying close to the walls and bushes was no longer an option as the infected could see them clearly running.
They did their best to avoid the infected, but they were surrounded by all sides and each infected could run the speed of an average healthy human. Dave swung his bat at the few infected that got close to them. Misty eventually fell into place with the two as they kept running for their lives while dodging death. Each turn they made was an encounterment with a new infected that enlarged the herd that followed, they knew nowhere to hide and could only keep running until a safe place appeared. They ran until they saw the pathway that led to extra curricular activities. They ran to the first gym they saw and upon entering they were greeted with a herd of infected students.
"The storage room" Ben pointed with his bat as he ran in the direction and the others followed carrying the infected along with them. While running Misty breath have out and she fell from exhaustion. She started panicking and crying as she held Davia's ankle. Davia felt scared seeing the infected approaching and her friend on the floor, she didn't know what to do, but she didn't want to die.
" Help me" Misty cried choking on her tears as her body trembled already at it's limit.
"Let me go, let me go Misty" Davia uttered. Davia was breathing heavily but she tried to control her breathing. Misty looked at Davia as she stopped crying feeling stunned. Misty plead to Davia for help still holding her ankle. Davia told Misty to release her, but she refused. Seeing the infected a few steps away Davia freed herself from her friend.
" I said let go Dammit" Davia barked irritated as she used her other foot and kicked Misty in her face causing her nose to bleed and then shook her ankle free. Misty was shocked as she cried in pain and held her nose, but before she could process anything something sharped sank into her leg and then she was being devoured by the infected. Misty's cries were drowned out by the growls of the infected as they ripped the flesh from her body, creating a pool of blood around her.
Dave stood by the store room door waiting to close it when they entered. He saw how Davia kicked her friend to save her own life and didn't even attempt to help her. Dave never expected such demeanor from the girl, they were always together huddled close. Both girls were best friends, but now when their loyalty was put to the test it was shattered easily. Dave wondered if everyone would unlock the quality of thinking about themselves or having the capability to kill others for their survival. As Davia entered the room he immediately closed the door and the infected banged into it. They scampered to one end of the room surrounding themselves with whatever objects were within reach. Their chest rose and dropped repeatedly as they looked at the door and prayed it wouldn't open. Ben stayed to the wall and Davia slowly slid down and sat on the floor. Dave watched her from the corner of his eye but said nothing. He wanted to ask questions, to make sure what he saw was real. Maybe because he was behind her and his point of view tricked him to seeing such horrific selfish act. He wanted to ask and clarify what he witnessed, but he couldn't put himself to and thought maybe it was better to wait. He still couldn't believe that Davia had just killed her best friend and didn't even try to help her, Davia was a murderer.
Felix was running for his life not carrying for anything behind him, he didn't want to be devoured by the infected students or die, he wanted to live. Focusing on escaping the infected he has forgotten about Ben and was unsure what have become of him. The building of the first year students were in view and seeing a path Felix rushed forward and entered the bathroom. As he scanned the room he noticed it was the female's bathroom, but that didn't bother him all he knew was now he could catch his breath. Felix entered one of the stalls and hitched the door before sitting on the toilet seat. His breathing was ragged as he hung his mouth open for air, his insides had set off a fire within burning his chest, his body trembled as his head hurt. Felix clenched his chest as he leaned back keeping his head up hoping it might help. It been years since he had run and never had he have to run with such desperation. Now that his body was resting every pain that he wasn't feeling a minute crawled up his body. Felix could feel his feet throbbing and his ankle felt painful, he was sure he must have sprained it, but now all he wanted to do was rest.
