Chapter 6

My mom's voice was exceptionally clear.

"Seraphina, you bastard! Melody only has a few months left to live, and you're still treating him like this!"

In my hazy state,

I heard many of Seraphina's murmurs.

"It's impossible. Melody, please wake up. You said before that you wanted to take the Chess Grandmaster trophy and travel the world with me."

"Melody, you clearly said that after winning the trophy, you wouldn't compete anymore and would stay with me forever."

I struggled to push her away, but I had no strength at all.

Seraphina, you were the one who didn't want me first.

You were the one who got engaged to another man first.

Waking up in the hospital, Seraphina was lying by my bedside.

She stared at me intently, but now without the coldness from before.

It was a tenderness I had never seen before.

"Melody, you're awake. How are you feeling?"

I shook off her hand, using what little strength I had to speak: "Seraphina. Leave."
