Trust No one( not even me)

That was when it happened.

A sword sliced through the air, its blade flashing in a light as it arced downward, biting deep into the monster . The sound of steel striking flesh was swift and deadly, followed by a gush of crimson as the wound opened wide. The force of the blow sent shockwaves through the air a testament to the power behind the strike.

It was like someone threw the sword and gave it the command to kill.

But then I saw a guy who caught the sword, it was like it weighed nothing to him.

"Run,get out of here —NOW!," his words exploded into the night air, a fierce command that cut through the fear and uncertainty, we sprang into frantic motion without hesitation.

We ran through the woods without direction and everything was just happening so fast and I was scared out of my mind.

After we ran some miles,we noticed that, it wasn't on to us again, but for a reason I wanted to know why.

We rested behind one of the trees cause we were gassing out.

Gasping for air, jeremy managed to stammer out a question, his voice hoarse from exertion,"who… the hell… was that?",

"I don't know," I said still fighting for oxygen.

"Well, who ever it was we owe him," bianca said.

"Yeah, well we gotta get out of here before we hit anymore surprises," I said.

Jeremy's hand grabbing on to my shoulders pulling me back.

"What was that all about back there," jeremy asked, his voice tinged with exasperation, his tone sharp with annoyance.

"I don't… am as surprised as you are," I said.

"Well that surprise would have killed us tonight," Jeremy said, he continued to bellow, his anger unabated.

Out of nowhere, three figures materialized before us—two boys and a girl, their faces stern and resolute. Without a moment's hesitation, the guy I saw catching the sword said.

"If you want to live, come with us, if you don't trust us, no problem, but you should know that thing won't stay down for long,"he said.

The warning hung in the air, heavy with implication, as we stood frozen, weighing our options.

"Uhhh… I don't think we have a choice right now than to trust you," Jeremy said.

"Yeah, I guess not," I muttered.

"Alright then. Hold on tight," the other guy said. "Oh—and try not to throw up when we land. Thanks."

"It's never good when someone says that," I thought.

Immediately we vanished from one spot and reappeared in a house, the teleportation feeling ticklish and weird at thesame time.

"Well, that was weird, I think I need to throw up now," Jeremy said, hunched over.

"Where are we and who the hell are you guys?," I asked.

"I can't tell you much right now, but am jack, she's samatha, and he's william," jack said.

"So am guessing your their leader," I said.

"It's not like that," jack said.

"Ok…what was that thing that wanted to kill me and my friends tonight," I asked.

"Like I said— I can't tell you much. Not yet," jack said.

"Are you kidding me, you saved our lives from something not known to mankind as real, and you say you can't tell me anything," I said, my voice cracked with frustration.

"I'm sorry, ok?, am just trying to stay safe here," jack said.

"It's called a shadow," samantha cut in.

"A what now? I'm sorry did you just say…shadow," I said, filled with disbelief.

"Why did you tell him?,"Jack asked.

"Am sorry ok?, it's just… we need to know why it attacked him, so I had to," samantha said.

"Uhmm… why are you guys speaking like am not here," I asked.

"Well if you guys are done, we really need to go home," Jeremy said.

"Am sorry but you can't, until I know why that thing came for you guys," jack said.

"Well we don't know," I said.

I was really hoping jack and his merry band could help us out, but they were in the dark like us to.

"Come on, you gotta do better than that," jack said.

"Am serious, I have no idea what that thing wanted," I said.

I couldn't tell jack the whole truth, atleast that's fair, he can't share all and I can't share all… atleast I check back for the book.

"So you mean to tell me that a shadow monster attacked you for no reason?," jack asked.

"Yeah, I guess…look, you should be the one explaining to us, not us explaining to you," I said.

"Well, I guess it's the other way round then, Jeremy please take them home," jack said.

"Wow… there is no way am doing that shit again," Jeremy said.

"Well, how do you plan to get home then?," william asked.

"Uhmm… there is something called a taxi, we could take that home," Jeremy said.

"Fine, at least let him escort you guys till you get a taxi," jack said.

"Yeah… sure that's ok, see you later jack," I said.

"Hope not, but miles, stay safe," Jack said.

I probably made a face like someone just told me my cat should do taxes.

"Don't worry, your ID gave you away," jack said.

That was close, I thought I had to worry about something else.

William walked us out.

"What do you think," samantha asked.

"I think…he didn't tell the whole story, that he's hiding something, but skeletons don't stay in the closet forever," jack said.

William followed us until we saw a taxi and stopped him, I was about to get in when William stopped me and said.

"We're the good guys, we just wanna help," william said.

"Yeah, you guys made that clear already, if i have any information I'll tell," I said.

"But…you don't have our number," William said.

" oh, right, can you just…you know write it down here, you got a pen right?," I said.

"Yeah, I do," William said.

"Ok, if that's all, I'll like to get going now," I said, getting into the taxi.

"See you later miles," william said.

I have a feeling they are the good guys, but I wanted to check the book before anything.

"Why didn't you tell them about the book," bianca asked.

"I've got my reasons, you guys just have to trust me," I said.

" I just hope we don't get killed next time," Jeremy said.

I had a plan but I just hope it's a good plan, I just hope it's worth it and it's not a stupid plan.
