Chapter 8

Rei, meanwhile, was a mess, scared witless by the grotesque zombies.

She bawled her eyes out, tears streaming down her face.

More zombies nearby heard the noise and started shambling over.

Lin Feng held Rei close, patting her back soothingly. "It's okay now, it's okay."

Say what you will, the girls in this world had some seriously impressive assets. Rei, still a high schooler, was already rocking an E-cup.

Lin Feng's hands weren't exactly behaving either. Under the guise of comforting her, they slid down to her perky, youthful backside.

Through her pleated skirt, he started feeling her up.

And wow, that was one plump, perfect handful!

But he could only indulge for a moment—zombies were closing in.

He wanted to drag Rei away right then and there.

As for Nagayoshi? That idiot could stay behind and cozy up with Moriqu.

Rei was still crying.

Getting annoyed, Lin Feng reached through her uniform and gave one of her breasts a squeeze.

"Eek!"

That snapped her out of it. She stopped crying, her face flushing as she looked up at Lin Feng.

He gazed into her eyes with a deep, earnest look. "Don't be scared, Rei. I'm here—everything's gonna be fine!"

Their eyes locked. Rei found courage in his steady gaze, a warm feeling spreading from his hand on her chest to her heart.

She stopped sobbing.

Ding!

Lin Feng reached out and took her hand. "Let's go."

Rei grabbed his hand back.

But as they turned to leave, she noticed Nagayoshi off to the side. She quickly let go of Lin Feng's hand, suddenly remembering she had a boyfriend!

She hurried over to Nagayoshi, who looked pale as death, blood dripping from his arm. Concerned, she asked, "Nagayoshi, are you okay?"

Takashi had just finished off the zombie attacking him.

Nagayoshi stared blankly at Rei and Lin Feng.

He'd confessed to Rei but hadn't even touched her hand. And now, trying to save her, he'd gotten bitten.

Still, he gritted his teeth, forcing the pain in his arm down. "I'm fine… just lost a chunk of flesh… cough, cough…"

The zombie virus hit fast. Before he could finish, he started coughing violently, blood spilling from his mouth.

Rei noticed his face turning dark, blood trickling from his lips.

"No way, it's just a bite—how's it this bad?!"

"It's like the movies," Lin Feng said coolly. "He's bitten. Soon he'll turn into a bloodthirsty monster."

Rei almost argued that movie stuff couldn't happen in real life…

But then she glanced out the window. Down below, people were chasing and tearing into students—just like in the films.

Takashi and Nagayoshi had seen zombie movies too. They knew a bite meant turning.

Nagayoshi looked at the bloodthirsty zombies below and gave a bitter laugh. He knew he was done for. "Lin Feng, can you do me a favor? I… I want to die as a human!"

Lin Feng glanced at Nagayoshi slumped on the ground. It was an easy enough request. With that, he swung the bat.

Thwack!

One hit straight to Nagayoshi's head.

"No way!" Rei hadn't even processed it before Nagayoshi's skull burst open!

"Why?! Why?! Nagayoshi's special—he wouldn't turn into a zombie!"

Rei clenched her fists, pounding Lin Feng's chest. But after a couple hits, she collapsed against him, crying again.

"You jerk, let go of Rei!"

Takashi glared furiously as the girl he loved sobbed in another guy's arms—especially since that guy had just killed his friend.

Why you? Why always you?

Finally, Takashi snapped. Rei was his childhood friend, his bride-to-be—no one could take her away, no one!

Ding!

[Takashi's collapse +20]

In a frenzy, Takashi grabbed the mop and swung it at Lin Feng's back.

"Watch out!"

Rei, still in Lin Feng's arms, saw Takashi lose it and raise the stick to strike.

Lin Feng let out a soft hum. He didn't let go of Rei or dodge. Instead, he lifted his leg and delivered a sharp back kick.

He'd trained in martial arts and taken gene enhancers—this kick carried 80% of his strength, a brutal blow!

Crack!

The wooden mop snapped in half, and Takashi was sent crashing into the wall, ribs bruised.

Rei's eyes widened. She didn't scold Lin Feng for kicking too hard. Instead, she turned her anger on Takashi, shouting, "Takashi, what's wrong with you?! Attacking Lin Feng like that!"

Lin Feng looked down at Takashi sprawled on the ground, his gaze dripping with contempt, like he was staring at trash. Still, he kept his tone calm. "Takashi, cool it. We've got to work together to survive this mess."

"You liar! You might fool Rei, but not me! I'll kill you someday!"

Takashi bit his lip, muttering curses under his breath.

But Lin Feng's fake noble act? To Rei, he was the good guy, the one who saw the big picture.

And Takashi? She remembered how, when those crazed students attacked her and nearly bit her, he'd just stood there, too scared to help!

This was the guy who kept saying he liked her?

In this life-or-death moment, Lin Feng seemed way more dependable.

Ding!

Her opinion of Lin Feng shot up again.

She couldn't help it. In her eyes, Takashi, sitting there on the ground, had no personality, no skills, and just lashed out at others when things went wrong.

Compared to him, Lin Feng was on a whole other level in her mind.

Right then, her eyes sparkled with admiration and awe as she looked at her savior, Lin Feng.

But when they turned to Takashi, they reflected a disappointment and disgust he couldn't bear.

In this world, Rei saw Nagayoshi more as a close friend she could confide in—she hadn't let him into her heart.

Takashi had noticed that too, thinking he had a shot at winning her back from his buddy.

But now? Rei's eyes were full of disappointment and disgust toward him!

Rei, disgusted by him?

We were engaged once! That was our deal—lying means swallowing a thousand needles!

Memories of their childhood promise flashed through Takashi's mind. A young, innocent Rei had said, "I'll be your bride, Takashi! Pinky swear!"

But now, Rei had forgotten that promise. Her expression just seemed to say,

Takashi… you don't get it! We're done. It's impossible now.
