Seeing Krauser appear at the entrance of the manor, Leon stepped forward and gave him a hug.
"Don't do this, my brother, it'll cause misunderstandings." Although Krauser was a standard soldier, with three beautiful ladies present, he unexpectedly made a little joke.
Then he glanced at Aiden and the others who were already fully armed and frowned as he asked, "Are they going too?"
Leon nodded, "Aiden is a friend who came out of Raccoon City with me. He has rich experience in fighting B.O.W.s. As for the other three ladies, aside from Manuela, those two maid ladies also possess very strong combat abilities."
"I think it's better if they leave here." As a proper traditional white man, Krauser had a natural sense of male chauvinism.
"This is for protecting them." He added, "It's not discrimination."
Upon hearing this, before Roberta could react, Fabiola called out in dissatisfaction, "We can have a match and see who's better."
As she spoke, Fabiola drew her pistol, and then somehow pulled out a coin and tossed it into the air. Then, without even looking, she raised her gun and fired.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Fabiola emptied all the bullets in her gun in one go, and every bullet accurately hit the coin.
The spinning coin finally fell down, and coincidentally, it landed right at Krauser's feet.
Krauser looked at the little maid in surprise. This girl who looked like she was only fourteen or fifteen years old had such accurate marksmanship.
"I take back what I said just now." Krauser said, "You're not inferior to any professional soldier I've met."
Then he looked at Aiden, "That little girl has already demonstrated her strength, what about you?"
"Krauser, I've already said, he came out of Raccoon City with me." What Leon was most dissatisfied with was Krauser's personality. Even though he was a standard soldier, he was too arrogant.
"So what if he came out of Raccoon City, who knows what really happened inside." Krauser said disdainfully.
Because he had never seen zombies with his own eyes, let alone those deliberately created B.O.W.s. If Leon wasn't considered half his student and hadn't performed outstandingly, Krauser wouldn't even treat him this politely.
Aiden naturally wouldn't show off like Fabiola. He had long passed that age. He just smiled faintly without saying a word.
"All right, Krauser, we're not in a military camp. No need to argue about who's the boss. The most important thing now is to complete the mission." Leon tried to mediate.
Upon hearing the word "mission," Krauser quieted down. As a pure soldier, that word was equivalent to an order.
"Speaking of missions, where are we going now? Are we looking for our informant first or going to that dam the little girl mentioned?" Krauser glanced at Manuela and asked.
Leon had already informed him of part of the information over the radio.
"Cloud Serpent Village." Leon said, "At least I need to know whether our informant is safe."
"Then let's depart immediately, I can't wait any longer." Krauser took out a map and glanced at it. Cloud Serpent Village was in the upper-middle stream of the river next to the manor. Going upstream, they could also visit the dam along the way.
After speaking, Krauser took off the camouflage bag on his back, pulled out a set of gear, a tactical vest, and some firearms and ammunition.
Then, he was the first to walk out of the manor.
Behind him, Leon said apologetically to Aiden, "That's just how he is, actually, he's not a bad person."
'Maybe, but that kind of personality will get him killed sooner or later.' Aiden thought of Krauser's fate in Resident Evil 4, shook his head, and sighed.
The river next to Lovelace Manor was a tributary of the Amazon River, over a hundred kilometers long. In the calmer sections of the river, some villages were located. The Cloud Serpent Village they were heading to this time was about thirty to forty kilometers away.
Since all the manor's available transportation had been used to send the Garcia father and son and the manor's servants away, Aiden and the others had no choice but to proceed on foot.
For such a long distance, it would take an average person most of the day to walk there, especially through complex jungle terrain. Those a bit slower might take a whole day.
But none of them were ordinary people. Not to mention Aiden and the two maids, or the professionally trained soldiers like Krauser and Leon, even the seemingly delicate little girl Manuela, who carried the Veronica virus, probably had the best physical condition among them all.
So, after advancing at a pace similar to high-intensity forced marches, though they set out at noon, they arrived at Cloud Serpent Village a little after 2 PM.
At that time, the village had already been ravaged by the T-virus released by Javier. The entire village was dead silent except for the speaker still broadcasting news about the missing girl.
The eerie atmosphere of the village made Aiden and the others feel uncomfortable, and Krauser, being a professional soldier, directly raised the M16 hanging from his chest into a defensive posture.
"Hey, everyone, be careful. Something's not right here." Krauser raised his rifle, cautiously moving deeper into the village while warning the others behind him.
"Looks like something happened here." Leon responded, then said to Aiden in a low voice, "The atmosphere here is very similar to Raccoon City."
Even though a long time had passed, the experience in Raccoon City remained an indelible shadow for him.
"Yeah." Aiden nodded, "This place reeks of death. Tch, I think I smell the stench of zombies."
At that moment, Krauser, who was walking in front, suddenly pointed and shouted, "Look over there, a villager. We can ask him something."
Aiden and the others looked in the direction he pointed. In an alleyway, a staggering villager was slowly walking toward them.
"Hi." Seeing the villager, Krauser even put away his rifle and walked over to greet him, "Can I ask you something? Don't worry, I won't ask for free. I'll give you a generous reward."
"Krauser, come back quickly, don't go over there."
"You'd better be careful, he doesn't look right."
Seeing the odd behavior of the villager, Aiden and Leon knew he was a zombie. But they only warned him and didn't stop him.
Krauser didn't believe in B.O.W.s, so maybe this time he'd learn his lesson.
The little maid Fabiola was a bit confused. Like Krauser, she had never seen zombies in person, so she asked Roberta in a low voice, "That's just an ordinary villager. Why are they so nervous?"
"You'll know in a minute." Roberta checked the rifle in her hand and said.
While they were talking, Krauser had already approached the "villager." Just as he was about to continue speaking, the "villager" suddenly bared its fangs and pounced at him.
Caught off guard, Krauser was knocked down. In panic, he pulled out his pistol and shot several rounds into the "villager's" abdomen. But the "villager" seemed unfazed by pain and continued to try to bite him. Krauser barely held its jaw away with his hand.
"Damn it, what the hell is going on?" Krauser shouted in frustration. "Why isn't he afraid of bullets?"
"Because it's no longer human. It's a zombie." Watching Krauser struggle, Aiden shook his head and smiled, drew his pistol, and said.
Then he pulled the trigger. With a gunshot, the "villager" on top of Krauser had its head blown to pieces.
Pushing away the corpse, Krauser wiped off the blood and brain matter on his face, climbed up in shock. Though he was battle-hardened, it was his first time experiencing such a scene.
"Now you should believe me, Krauser. B.O.W.s are real." Leon said to him calmly.
Krauser took a deep breath and nodded forcefully. "Damn it, who the hell made these monsters? They all deserve to be executed."
"There are a lot of people who should be executed, especially some of your Congress members. They're part of the cause too." Aiden interjected.
"What?" Krauser was stunned and was about to ask more when he suddenly noticed that the previously silent village, where only the speaker had been sounding, was now bustling. Countless "villagers" were swarming toward them from all directions.
"Fabiola, remember, their weakness is the head." Seeing the incoming zombies, Roberta behind Aiden pulled the bolt, chambered a round, then raised her rifle and shot the approaching zombies.
As she fired the first shot, the rest of Aiden's group started firing too. Several standard rifles instantly unleashed strong firepower. In just one volley, over thirty zombies were taken down.
"Looks like they're easy to handle." After taking out a few zombies with a few shots, Fabiola said casually.
"Because these are the most basic and low-level bio-weapons." Manuela replied.
"There are many more terrifying monsters yet to appear."
"Aiya, as long as it can be solved with a gun, it's no big deal." Fabiola said nonchalantly, smoothly swapping her empty magazine with a new one.
Roberta beside her agreed with Manuela. During her time in Roanapur, she had fought monsters countless times stronger than these common zombies.
"Enough chatting, stay with us, we're heading deeper into the village."
Up front, Leon interrupted their conversation. Worried about the informant's safety, he just wanted to speed up.
After firing off two empty magazines, Aiden retreated to Roberta's side. With those two powerhouses tanking the front, he was happy to take it easy.
'Though, to be fair, this is much easier than the original plot.' Aiden thought. After all, in the original story, Leon and Krauser only carried pistols, and it was just the two of them.
But now it was different. Apart from Manuela who couldn't use a gun, they had five powerful rifles, and every one of them was elite. So unlike the original plot, the scene of being chased by zombies just couldn't happen.
The imagined situation of retreating while fighting didn't occur. The group fired as they advanced deeper into the village.
This village didn't look big, but the area it covered was surprisingly large. There were not only land buildings, but also half the buildings were built over water.
Soon, they reached the other side of the village, where buildings floated on the water.
This area's buildings were mostly pieced together with wooden planks, unlike the stone and brick structures on land. They were light enough to stand on the water but not very sturdy. As Aiden's group walked across them, creaking sounds echoed underfoot.
Then, from inside one of the rooms, they heard gunshots.
"There's someone inside."
Krauser paused for a moment, then shouted loudly. He raised his gun and charged in.
Aiden and the others followed behind him, but the entrance was very narrow. They entered a bit later, and by the time they got in, they saw a zombie biting a bespectacled, pure-blooded South American man.
"Help him quickly, he's our informant!" Leon followed behind Krauser, and seeing this situation, shouted loudly.
And in fact, Krauser had already rushed forward upon seeing it, but it was still too late. When he pulled away the man with glasses, blood spurted out from his neck.
The zombie had torn open that man's neck, a large chunk of flesh was swallowed into its mouth.
Bang!
After being stunned for a moment, Krauser shot and took out the zombie, then watched helplessly as their informant collapsed to the ground.
