Chapter 172: Interference and New Enemies

"Has it already been taken down? Who did it? Or… Has the strength of the YoRHa B-type units reached this level?" Driving the fighter jet was naturally 9S. Looking at Engels, completely submerged by sea water, he murmured to himself.

At this time, the onboard detector suddenly alerted him that it had discovered the figures of 2B and 4B, so he suppressed the speculation in his heart and piloted the fighter over.

On the other side of the bridge, Anemone stood with arms crossed, frowning as she looked across.

"Damn it, who the hell sent that robot? It actually took down that big guy directly, and Number Two didn't even get a chance to act, this is just too infuriating!"

She had been thinking of having Number Two perform a dramatic emergency rescue scene! But now, it seems this grand act ended before it even began.

"Chief, what should we do now?" As Anemone was fuming, one of her subordinates asked from behind.

"Find something that can be used as a boat. We'll go over and regroup with them." Anemone weakly waved her hand.

"Understood!" The subordinate android responded, then jumped down from the broken bridge with a few others, going to search for things that could be used as boats.

'Damn it, my head hurts!'

Aiden gritted his teeth, eyes tightly shut, body swaying unsteadily, almost falling over.

"Aiden, what's wrong with you?" Yakor and A2 supported Aiden from the left and right, asking in unison.

Even 11B, who was standing at a distance, looked at him with concern, after all, he had saved her life.

But Aiden seemed to not hear at all, only clenching his fist and forcefully knocking his own head.

When the berserker robot self-destructed, he forgot to cut off the mental link. The shock from the explosion had a severe impact on him, his brain felt like a steel needle had been stabbed into it, intense stabbing pain.

At this moment, not only did his head feel like it was splitting, he couldn't even hear the sounds of the outside world.

"Huff… huff…"

After taking a few deep breaths, Aiden felt much better. Then he slowly opened his eyes, seeing Yakor and A2 looking at him nervously.

However, his vision and hearing hadn't fully recovered, so in his eyes, Yakor and A2 appeared very blurry. He could only tell they were moving their mouths, but couldn't clearly hear what they were saying.

"Let's have him sit down and rest for a while." Seeing the slightly dazed look in Aiden's eyes, Yakor knew he hadn't recovered yet, and quickly said to A2.

Although A2 wasn't sure whether sitting and resting would help an android, there were no better options, so she nodded and helped Yakor support Aiden to sit on a large rock.

———

"2B, 4B, are you two hurt?"

Jumping down from the fighter jet, 9S suppressed the urge in his heart and asked in as calm a tone as possible.

However, the way he looked at 2B was filled with barely hidden passion. Although this was his first time working with 2B, he didn't know why, but a voice in his mind kept urging him to embrace her.

As if she noticed the meaning behind 9S's intense gaze, 2B slightly turned her head to look at the HO229 behind him, avoiding his eyes, and countered, "Attacked on the way here?"

"Yeah, ran into a bunch of annoying guys. They weren't much of a threat, but they slowed me down. Otherwise, I definitely would've arrived earlier." 9S clenched his fists angrily. He really wanted to show off his strength in front of 2B.

"But speaking of which, how did you guys manage to take it down?" 9S curiously asked. When landing earlier, he had seen Engels fallen in the sea. Even though only a small part of its body was visible, it had still shocked him.

2B shook her head and said, "It wasn't us. We didn't contribute much."

Probably due to pride, she was too embarrassed to say that they had basically done nothing.

"Not you? Then who?" 9S was shocked again. As a reconnaissance model, he hadn't even known such a powerful presence was nearby.

"We don't know either. Maybe… we can ask her." 2B shook her head, gaze turning to Anemone, who was climbing up the bridge along the rubble.

Anemone had come over using a raft. Her subordinates had somehow found some wood, quickly reinforced it with steel bars, and assigned an android to act as rower to ferry her across first.

After all, considering the weight of androids, the raft could only carry two people at a time, any more and it might fall apart.

Once Anemone climbed up, 9S immediately questioned her.

"How would I know? I was going to ask you! That thing wasn't a new weapon developed by you guys?" Anemone, completely confused, countered with some resentment, after all, it had ruined her plan.

"That's strange then. Who could've sent it?" 9S fell into deep thought.

"Oh, who cares who sent it, anyway, the target's been eliminated, no need to dwell on it." Anemone casually waved her hand. "Next, would you all be interested in visiting the resistance camp? It's quite lively over there, definitely no worse than the Bunker."

Anemone had never actually been to the Bunker, this was just her way of saying it. However, her invitation wasn't just for a tour, she already had a new plan.

"Like the Bunker? Then forget it, we're not going."

When they first heard her invite them to the resistance camp, the three of them were a little tempted. But after hearing her say "no worse than the Bunker," they lost interest again.

They knew what kind of place the Bunker was, and "no worse than the Bunker" basically meant "not as good." So all three shook their heads.

2B even said, "The target has been dealt with. We still need to return to the Bunker to report to Command. Maybe next time."

"All right then," Anemone replied with a hint of disappointment.

Then she took out her communicator, preparing to contact A2 and the others. But for some reason, even though the target had already been eliminated, her communicator was still being jammed.

So she asked 2B and the others, "Is your communicator working?"

Upon hearing this, 2B had her POD try, but the response was negative.

"That's really strange. Could something around here still be emitting electromagnetic waves? Interfering with our communication?" Anemone walked to the broken edge of the bridge and leaned over to look into the sea.

Engels' remains were lying quietly in the water. Not far from it, her subordinates were still being ferried over one by one on the raft.

While she was observing in confusion, she suddenly saw a large shadow appear under the raft, and then the water began to boil and churn.

"There's something in the water!" Anemone shouted, then yelled to her subordinates, "Get away from there!"

But it was too late. Just as her voice fell, a giant hand emerged from the sea. Amidst Anemone's anxious shouts, it slapped the raft, flipping it over.

The two androids on the raft fell into the water, but before they could swim to shore, another mechanical arm reached out of the water and smashed down on them.

"Bastard! Damn it!" Anemone raised a rifle like an AK and pulled the trigger at the mechanical arm, but the bullets only produced a few sparks.

At this moment, two more spots on the sea surface began to churn violently. Then, three identical giant mechanical weapons, Engels units, emerged from the seabed.

"H-How could this be? Didn't Command say there was only one? Why are there three now?"

Seeing the appearance of three Engels units, 9S was filled with despair and guilt. Although the intel came from Command, he was the one responsible for scouting this area. He shared the blame.

"I'm sorry, I didn't do my reconnaissance properly," he said apologetically.

2B stepped forward, raising her hand as if to put it on his shoulder to comfort him, but recalling past experiences, she retracted it and instead said, "Enough, 9S. This isn't the time for that. What's most important now is figuring out how to deal with them."

"Deal with them? That's wishful thinking. Those are three Engels! Unless…" 9S said as he suddenly raised a hand to his chest, inside, his most vital core, the Black Box, was stored.

2B and 4B understood what he meant. Activating the Black Box inside them to self-destruct could take out the three Engels.

But they hesitated. YoRHa androids could upload their memory data to the Bunker, so they didn't fear death, they had an unlimited supply of bodies. But resistance androids didn't. If they died, they were gone for good.

Besides, the blast radius of a self-destruction would easily cover a kilometer.

"Looks like we'll have to fight them head-on. Or, we could cover the resistance while they evacuate," 2B calmly said, gripping the White Contract sword.
