Chapter 08-Silent Flames

The training room felt oddly calm. Only footsteps, quiet breaths, and the soft thuds of darts hitting the board broke the silence. Arisa crossed her arms and flashed a playful smile at the two boys.

"How about a little test match?" she offered. "Everyone against everyone. Just a warm-up."

Kurumi shrugged. "Fine, as long as no one starts showing off."

"Not yet," Arisa winked.

Kaito nodded silently. He didn't know what to expect, but something told him this match wouldn't just be about darts.

Kurumi went first. As always, his style was sharp and precise—his darts flew true, every throw measured and efficient. Kaito observed with interest, unshaken. He stepped up to the line, focused, and responded with equal control. Calm breath, steady aim. A player's soul in balance.

Then came Arisa. Her first two darts landed close to the center—casual, like she was warming up her wrist. But the third... it flew strangely. For a moment, it shimmered mid-air, like light bouncing off water. It landed dead center in the bull's eye.

Kurumi raised an eyebrow.

"You're not playing fair, are you?"

Arisa smiled innocently. "I just wanted to have a little fun."

Kaito felt something stir—not fear, but a challenge. He matched her intensity without faltering. Focus, breath, throw. Again and again.

After several rounds, Kurumi shook his head with a tired grin.

"That's enough warming up for me. I'm hitting the showers. You two enjoy yourselves."

And with that, he disappeared through the door.

Only Kaito and Arisa remained.

She stepped closer, leaning casually against the table with a glint in her eye—a mix of amusement and something Kaito couldn't quite read.

"You know, I've got a match coming up soon," she said. "Maybe you should really take a break. Sit down somewhere, turn on the TV, grab a snack… and watch me."

Kaito said nothing, just looked at her.

"Who knows," she added, "maybe you'll learn something new."

She stepped closer, tilting her head slightly.

"Or maybe… you just like watching me do my thing?"

She turned away, her long braid catching the light as she walked off with a teasing smile.

Kaito stood still. One dart in his hand, and something else pulsing quietly in the other—focus, maybe... or something more.

He glanced at the board. Then at the door.

Then… toward the remote control.
