Chapter 56: The Tenseigan

As Kai's thoughts concluded, the pointer on the roulette began spinning once more.

Although the wheel lacked explicit labels, Kai was certain: the white section represented the Byakugan, while the green section signified the Perfect Sage Body.

This time, the wait wasn't long. The pointer quickly came to a halt, landing firmly in the white area.

"The Tenseigan, huh?"

Kai exhaled deeply. While there was a faint trace of disappointment in his heart, he wouldn't call it disheartening.

Truthfully, Kai had been eagerly anticipating an upgrade to his Perfect Sage Body. After all, it was already a high-tier Kekkei Genkai. If it were to evolve further, it might become a type of bloodline limit that had never been seen before in the ninja world.

With Kai's current regenerative abilities as a Perfect Sage Body user, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to think that, upon evolution, he might even achieve the legendary feat of regeneration from a single drop of blood.

"Still, the Tenseigan is impressive in its own right. Whether it's developing its abilities or utilizing them, I already have some ideas. Techniques like the Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion and the Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion are absurdly powerful."

"Host, please prepare yourself. Your Byakugan will now begin its evolution into the Tenseigan. The gestation process of the Tenseigan will be infinitely accelerated, which may cause some pain. Host, please endure."

"Endure?"

Kai felt an ominous premonition rising in his heart. He had been given a similar warning from the system when integrating the Ashura Bloodline.

Before he could brace himself—

It felt as though his left eyeball had exploded within its socket, and the sensation spread throughout his entire body. Pain, numbness, itchiness—Kai couldn't distinguish what he was feeling anymore.

Clutching his left eye with one hand and supporting himself on the ground with the other, Kai endured the torment. Within moments, the ground beneath him was soaked with his sweat. It wasn't until half an hour later that the sensation gradually subsided.

Collapsed on the ground, his left eye now transformed into the azure glow of the Tenseigan, Kai gasped for air. "Good thing I held back and didn't gouge my eye out."

Simultaneously, he raised his left arm, which was instantly enveloped in a radiant blue chakra.

"So this is the power of the Tenseigan. Truly astonishing."

"Ding! New mission issued: Ensure Konoha emerges victorious in the Third Shinobi World War.

Mission Reward: Unlock the host's Yang Release Chakra from the Sage Body.

Mission Failure: The mission system will be permanently disabled."

"Finally, a mission. It's been five years without any activity, and I was beginning to think the system had shut down again. Yang Release, huh? A power derived from the life energy of the body, used to imbue form with vitality. As expected, the bloodline of Ashura possesses Yang Release, but I simply haven't unlocked it yet."

"Still, ensuring Konoha wins the Third Shinobi World War? If we follow the original timeline of the Naruto world, that should happen naturally. Or is there some unforeseen variable?"

Frowning, Kai was puzzled. He would never believe the system would be so kind as to hand him rewards without some hidden agenda.

"Lord Mitarashi Kai, Lord Jiraiya is requesting your presence."

A Konoha Chūnin spoke from outside Kai's tent. Although Kai was only twelve years old, he was a bona fide Kage-level powerhouse. In this camp, aside from Jiraiya, every ninja respectfully addressed him as "Lord."

"Understood."

Kai rose and made his way to Jiraiya's tent.

"You're here, Kai."

Jiraiya's tone was uncharacteristically serious, forgoing his usual habit of calling Kai a "brat." This surprised Kai, but seeing Jiraiya's grave expression, he could tell something significant had occurred.

"What's the matter?" Kai asked, his demeanor also turning serious.

"The Iwa, Kumo, and Kiri shinobi have formed an alliance. They plan to attack Konoha simultaneously." As Jiraiya spoke, his expression grew increasingly grim.

"What?"

Kai couldn't believe his ears. Those three villages had actually formed an alliance? After all, Iwa and Kumo had always been at odds, frequently clashing.

It wasn't surprising, though. This was a shinobi world war, not just a war against Konoha. Powerful villages like Konoha, Iwa, and Kumo often found themselves fighting on multiple fronts. For instance, in the original story, the death of the Third Raikage was closely tied to Iwa.

Although Kiri had already declared war on Konoha, the battles had been relatively subdued. No Kage-level combatants had yet appeared on the Water Country's battlefield.

Now, with these three villages forming an alliance, it was clear they aimed to eliminate Konoha, the strongest village, first. Afterward, they could deal with their respective enemies. It was true: in this world, there were no eternal enemies, only eternal interests.

Jiraiya continued, "The Shishio and Ino-Shika-Chō trio have been dispatched to the Water Country battlefield. Lord Third Hokage himself has gone to the Earth Country battlefield. I've sent Minato there as well. That leaves only the two of us as Kage-level combatants on the Lightning Country battlefield. No matter how difficult it gets, we must hold off the Lightning Country's forces!"

"Hold them off? If that's the case, why not annihilate Kumo here and now? Then I'll head to the Water Country battlefield, and you can reinforce the Earth Country battlefield."

Kai's tone was calm, as if he were discussing something trivial.

"Uh…"

Jiraiya was stunned, shaking his head in disagreement. "Kai, we can't underestimate Kumo's strength. You know how strong they are. Killer Bee can now perfectly control his Tailed Beast Transformation. Raikage candidate A has reached Kage-level, and then there's the Third Raikage. The two of us would have to face at least three Kage-level opponents."

Kai didn't argue. With the power of the Tenseigan, his strength had more than doubled. Once they were on the battlefield, Jiraiya would understand that his confidence wasn't arrogance.

Sure enough, it didn't take long for Kumo to launch another attack, and it was fiercer than ever.

"Kai, no matter what, you must hold the line. We cannot let the Kumo shinobi break through our defenses!"

Jiraiya's gaze turned toward the most intense clash between Konoha and Kumo, a determined glint in his eyes. No matter what, even if he were to die on the battlefield, he would not retreat an inch.

On the battlefield, Killer Bee stood with eight tails swaying behind him. Spotting Kai's arrival, he tilted his head and rapped, "Yo, fool! Ya fool! Come on, face the great Killer Bee, the murderin' bee!"

Over the past five years, Kai had fought Killer Bee dozens of times. Each time, Kai had the upper hand, but once Killer Bee entered Tailed Beast Mode, Kai could do little to stop him.

"Kai, you handle the Eight-Tails. I'll take care of the Third Raikage and A," Jiraiya said, his expression serious.

Kai shook his head, replying calmly, "I'll handle the Third Raikage. You take A."

"Kai, the Third Raikage isn't someone you can handle. And what about the Eight-Tails?" Jiraiya clearly disagreed with Kai's suggestion.

"The Eight-Tails?" Kai smirked. "Leave that to it."

As Kai's words fell, a thunderous rumble erupted across the battlefield, the ground trembling as if struck by an earthquake.
