The Blood That Binds and Blinds

The study of Old Master Feng was silent, heavy with tension. The scent of sandalwood lingered, grounding the room in calm—only on the surface.

Feng Zheng stood stiffly in front of his father, fists clenched behind his back. His face was tight with barely veiled frustration.

"You've been giving Xiao Xiao too much freedom," he said flatly. "She's stirring trouble in the household. She's embarrassing the Feng name."

Old Master Feng looked up from his tea, gaze sharp. "She's restoring it."

"She threatened Madam Lin and disrespected her elders."

"She exposed a thief and defended her late mother's memory."

Feng Zheng's jaw locked.

"She doesn't act like a daughter should."

"And you—" Old Master Feng's voice dropped dangerously—"never acted like a father should."

The silence cracked between them.

"Do you think I didn't know?" the old man continued. "How you treated her mother? How you let Lin Yueh climb into this house and poison it slowly?"

Feng Zheng's face turned red. "Father—"

"Quiet." The old man stood, slow but firm, the weight of legacy in every step. "You ignored the girl for years. You turned a blind eye to her pain. And now, you want to silence her again?"

"She's unstable. She's different," Feng Zheng muttered. "She's… unpredictable."

Old Master Feng stared at him.

"She's focused. Calm. Ruthless, yes—but that's what this world requires. She's more of a Feng than you ever were."

Feng Zheng flinched, as if struck.

"I am protecting her," the old man said firmly. "Not just because she is my granddaughter. But because she is the legitimate heir to this family's name and honor."

"And Qian Qian?" Feng Zheng said bitterly. "She's your granddaughter too."

"No," the old man said coldly. "She is a parasite living under this roof by my tolerance. And that ends soon."

He picked up his cane and looked directly into his son's eyes.

"You will not interfere with Xiao Xiao again."

"And if I do?"

Old Master Feng smiled. A slow, lethal thing.

"Then you'll find out how little power you have left in this house."
