Chapter 112 – Third Game

Title: "Down to the Wire"

Part One – The Final Battle Begins

The Wolves stepped onto the court knowing the stakes. Two wins already in their pocket, but this final group stage game would decide who topped the group—and avoid facing the tournament favorite in the quarterfinals.

Their opponent? The Central Ridge Hawks. Fast, aggressive, and known for deadly outside shooting.

Ryan adjusted his assistant coach badge, eyes scanning the Hawks' warm-up. "They're gonna try to run us off the floor," he muttered to Coach Daniels. "We match tempo, we lose. Let's slow it down and control the boards."

The tip-off went to the Hawks. First possession—three-pointer. Splash. Crowd roared.

Ben answered quickly with a power drive, drawing contact and finishing the layup. Free throw—good.

The first quarter was a storm. Baskets traded, blocks swatted, coaches yelling nonstop. Tyler held his own, guiding the offense, but the Hawks' full-court press was exhausting. Savannah's voice echoed from the sideline as the cheer team kept morale high.

End of first: 17–17.

Even.

Part Two – Slipping Away

The second quarter started rough. The Hawks pushed the tempo, scoring two quick buckets off turnovers. Tyler got subbed out to rest. Without him, the Wolves lost rhythm.

Ben fought to keep them in it—rebounding, yelling switches, calling plays himself.

But the Hawks were relentless. Their point guard hit back-to-back threes, and the crowd roared.

Timeout.

Ryan huddled the team, voice sharp. "We're panicking. Breathe. Ben—you're the anchor. Everyone else plays off you."

Back on the court, Ben took control.

He slowed the pace, posted up, dished clean assists, and got back on defense like his life depended on it.

By halftime, the Wolves had cut the lead down.

Halftime: 35–33. Hawks up.

Part Three – No One's Giving Up

The third quarter was brutal. Physical. Bodies hit the floor. Whistles blew non-stop. The refs were letting a lot slide.

Tyler came back in, energized. He zipped passes through tight gaps, and Ben fed off it—slashing, spinning, getting buckets inside.

But the Hawks weren't done.

They hit a corner three. Then a block. Then a transition dunk. Momentum flipped again.

Ryan stood on the sideline, fists clenched. "Dig deep!" he shouted.

Ben grabbed a rebound in traffic, then roared as he went coast-to-coast for a slam.

End of third: 52–51. Wolves barely up.

One quarter left.

The gym was electric.

Part Four – Ben's Big Moment

The final quarter was chaos.

Neither team could pull away. Tied at 60 with a minute left.

Ben got fouled—made one, missed the second. Hawks hit a mid-range jumper.

62–61. Hawks. Thirty seconds.

Wolves ball. Ryan and Coach Daniels talked quick.

Ryan looked at Ben. "We trust you."

Play resumed. Tyler dribbled up, faked a screen, dished to Ben.

Ten seconds.

Ben faced up, jab-stepped, spun—his signature move—and launched a fadeaway jumper over two defenders.

Swish.

63–62.

The gym exploded.

The Hawks rushed upcourt, fired a desperation three—rimmed out.

Final buzzer. Wolves win.

Ben dropped to his knees, overwhelmed, then looked up at the lights—grinning.

Ryan met him at half-court. "That's why you're our leader."

They were undefeated. Top of the group. On to the quarterfinals.
