As the clock ticked down to 9:59, the moment of truth arrived. The bidding price had soared to 85,000 coins. As the final second passed, a flurry of bids suddenly appeared, and the transaction was concluded at an astonishing 120,000 coins.
"Damn it, I failed to buy a Black Iron weapon for 110,000?" Huang Shao muttered angrily, his frustration evident. He had anticipated the final price to be around 100,000, planning to sneak in a bid for a bit more, but it had still slipped out of his grasp.
"F**k, I swear, if I find out who this is, I'll expose them," he grumbled in a mix of fury and helplessness.
"Phew… Junlin, you were right. These players really treat money as nothing. A Black Iron weapon sells for 120,000 so easily. I can't imagine what the prices for higher-tier equipment will be like," Lin Zi sighed.
"It's all about timing, and this Dust Sealed knows exactly when to strike. The weapon was in high demand, and our starting village has a few big spenders. This level of wealth is still rare; not every village has players like that. Once we reach the main city, with more players selling gear, the prices will normalize," Junlin remarked.
"Ah, to be born in the same starting village as him—it's both a blessing and a curse," Haoran sighed.
The others nodded in agreement. With their abilities, they could have ruled any other village, but now, they were mere background players in comparison.
"According to official statistics, the player count in China has surpassed 200 million, and it's still growing rapidly. So, high equipment prices are to be expected. But this is also an opportunity for us. While we may not stand out in this village with Dust Sealed here, many players have already acquired high-stat gear thanks to him. I believe the overall strength of our village is ahead of others. Once we reach the main city, we'll have a significant advantage," Junlin concluded.
"Mm," the others agreed.
Meanwhile, Liu Shu handed the [Fangtooth Greatblade] to Su Muxue. "Miss, with this weapon, our efficiency in farming monsters will improve greatly. We should aim to reach level 10 and position ourselves advantageously in the main city."
"Mm," Su Muxue sighed. "120,000 coins… Dust Sealed must have made hundreds of thousands from selling gear just from yesterday to today."
"Mm, because he's ahead of everyone else, making money in this game is quite easy. If we want to succeed, we must stay ahead of the crowd," Liu Shu explained.
Just then, Wu Shaochen, who was grinding Silver Wolves, heard a system notification. Although it was unexpected, he had become somewhat numb to such notifications by now.
"Ding! Your item in the auction house has been purchased for 120,000 coins. After a transaction fee of 18,000 coins, 102,000 coins have been transferred to your linked bank account."
"Wow, a Black Iron weapon sold for 120,000 coins... Once I auction that skill book in the main city, I'll probably have enough for a game pod," Wu Shaochen thought to himself.
He continued grinding Silver Wolves, noticing his experience was 2,340/8,000. A Silver Wolf at level 8 gave him 72 experience, and with monster pulls, it took him about 3 minutes per wolf. He figured it would take around 4 hours to level up.
"This pace is a bit slow," he sighed. Although his monster-killing speed wasn't much slower than others, his strategy was different. Most players relied on groups and had higher attack speeds, but he had the advantage of being able to fight monsters several levels higher. He couldn't afford to engage in a simple stand-and-fight strategy; he had to avoid damage and heal, or else he'd be overwhelmed. This slower approach still resulted in quicker leveling than most, though.
"I need to adjust my strategy," Wu Shaochen thought. With his healing rate of 6 per second, he could recover 300 health in 50 seconds, making it possible to withstand the attacks of three Silver Wolves at once. "If I group them up, I can grind even faster."
He tried pulling three wolves at once, attacking the first one. But as he prepared to strike the second, the three wolves attacked in unison, catching him off guard. Wu Shaochen quickly fled.
"Damn it, I miscalculated! I forgot they could all attack at once. If each wolf hits me once, I'll be taking 9 hits. I'd be done for," he muttered, slapping his forehead.
"Forget it, I'll stick to the original strategy, unless I can separate them," he decided.
Just then, one of the Silver Wolves activated its [Speed Rush] skill, pulling away from the others and charging directly at Wu Shaochen.
His eyes lit up. "Perfect! This splits them up! I can still farm all three this way."
After two hours of grinding, Wu Shaochen logged off for a quick breakfast. He returned online and continued grinding for another three and a half hours, reaching level 9. His health had risen to 660, mana to 140, and experience was 28/10,000. Other attributes remained unchanged, and he decided to save his points for now.
After three and a half hours of farming 79 Silver Wolves, he had obtained two pieces of equipment:
[Silver Wolf Helmet] (White-tier): Health +60, Defense +10 [Silver Wolf Ring] (White-tier): Attack +12, Attack Speed +1%, Armor Penetration +1%
He equipped the [Silver Wolf Helmet], replacing his [Toad Helmet], gaining 20 more health, bringing his total to 680 health. He listed the [Silver Wolf Ring] and [Toad Helmet] on the auction house with bidding mode, unsure of their value.
The [Silver Wolf Ring] sold for 15,000 coins, while the [Toad Helmet] went for 5,000 coins. As expected, non-exclusive items had begun to rapidly depreciate in value as player levels and gear progressed. Previously, Wild Boar gear had sold for 30,000 coins, but now, even Silver Wolf gear only fetched 15,000 coins.
Still, Wu Shaochen was satisfied. After all, these were just second-hand items he had outgrown. It was much better than selling them to a shop for a few copper coins.
With one more level, he would be able to visit the village elder and head to the main city. Based on the game mechanics, he was likely to receive a reward for being among the first to change classes.
At level 9, each Silver Wolf now only gave 66 experience, meaning he'd need to kill 152 to level up. At an average of 2 minutes per wolf, it would take around 5 hours to reach the next level. It felt daunting, but Wu Shaochen pressed on.
"Well, no choice but to keep grinding. To rise above the rest, I'll have to put in the effort," he thought, continuing to pull monsters.
Suddenly, a mighty wolf howl echoed through the valley, and Wu Shaochen noticed that the Silver Wolves, which had previously been scattered, now seemed to have rallied and were positioned for battle.
"Is that a boss?" Wu Shaochen wondered. "I'd better check it out."
With swift determination, he dashed towards the deeper part of the valley, skillfully dodging Silver Wolves. He didn't mind if they pursued—his movement speed of 50 was more than enough to keep him ahead.
