After some time,
lunch break started. Before I could leave, Kiyomi approached me and asked if I was free—and if I could show her around the school.
She said the teacher told her she could ask anyone she wanted to help her out.
Apparently… she chose me.
I asked, "Does it really have to be me?"
She looked a bit awkward. "No… it's not,"
she said quickly. "It's okay if you don't want to."
She turned slightly, about to walk away. But I stopped her.
"It's fine. I don't really have anything better to do anyway."
She jumped with joy. And just like that, we headed out.
But just before we left the classroom, I noticed Aika. She looked like she was trying to approach me…But hesitated.
Maybe it was because of Kiyomi.
I didn't think too much of it.
We spent the whole break walking around the school. She looked genuinely happy—and somehow, that made me happy too.
Before we returned to class, she offered to buy me a drink as thanks. I accepted with a small nod, and we headed back.
The rest of the day went on like usual—Studying, lectures, silence.
Every now and then, I caught myself glancing at her. I don't know why…but for some reason, just seeing her kept my heart at ease.
When school ended, I was about to leave, when Aika suddenly rushed over to my bench.
"Let's walk home," she said quickly.
I blinked. "Weren't we going to do that anyway?"
She looked away, a little embarrassed. I grabbed my bag, and we started walking together.
At the gate, I ran into Kiyomi. We exchanged a brief glance. She smiled. And we went our separate ways.
I walked Aika to her house. Her mother greeted me warmly at the door.
"You should stay for dinner," she said kindly.
I politely declined, said goodbye, and made my way back home.
When I arrived, my mother greeted me with a curious smile.
"Something good happen today or Did you meet someone special?" She asked.
I replied "It's nothing like that. Just that a new student joined us. That's all."
She raised an eyebrow. "A girl?"
I sighed. "Yes. But I have nothing to do with her."
She looked disappointed. "You should bring some excitement into your life," she said with a sigh. "Love is a good place to start."
I didn't respond. I just went to my room, changed clothes, and cleaned up.
But even after all that…I kept thinking about her.
About our first meeting. About the empty seat next to mine.
Was it just a coincidence? Or maybe fate?
…Or maybe I've just been so unsocial that no one ever sits next to me.
I sighed.
"Whatever. She's just a new classmate. Nothing more."
I pulled out my homework and started working.
Another day ended. And just like that…Tomorrow began a new beginning.
