A taste of revenge. Pt. 4

Lena:

Fucking hell.

He’s driving me insane. I can’t believe he just did that. He left me when I was ready to reach the best orgasm I’d probably have in my life. Dear God, he’s going to destroy me, I just know it.

I fix my dress and my hair in the reflection of one of the windows of the office. There’s no fixing in the world for my flustered face, but I’m 100% sure that Ryan knows that.

Whatever. I couldn’t give a shit what these people think of me. More humiliated than the day I went to all of them in my worst moment and they kicked me out I won’t be today. I take a moment to compose myself and, with the biggest smile I can muster taking into account the circumstances, I leave the office and rejoin the party.

My betraying eyes look all over for Ryan and find him almost immediately, surrounded by not one, not two, but three women. They’re all smiling and one of them is even touching his arm, but he doesn’t look fazed or affected in the least by them. I shouldn’t be so satisfied by that, but I can’t help it.

I feel someone standing next to me. Thinking is Dan, I turn around with a smile, but it dies the moment I realize who it’s actually standing so close to me.

“It’s been too long, L.” Hunter’s boyish grin greets me, bringing back so many bittersweet memories pounding my brain.

“I wish I could say I’m glad to see you again, but I’m not into lying o people in their faces,” I reply, wanting to get out of this place as fast as I can.

“That sense of humor is one of the things I’ve always loved about you, L,” he says, not even caring a bit about my obvious resentment towards him.

“What do you want, Hunter?” I ask, already tired from this pointless conversation.

“I’m just curious about what’s become of an old friend, that’s it.” His response is so fake I can’t help but roll my eyes at him.

“Well, my life’s been hell since everyone I’ve known kicked me to the side like dog with rabies, but I’m sure you already know that. What I am curious about is why would you decide to do business with someone you’ve despised since highschool?”

“Who? Ryan? He definitely hasn’t changed a bit. Still as gullible as always. I’m just using him to make my dad happy about his beloved building. I couldn’t care less about it, but you know how old men get sentimental sometimes. This was his first building and the beginning of our legacy. I made a few mistakes and it almost went bankrupt. My dad was not happy, but I got to correct my mistake with Ryan’s business. Anyways, it was a cheap deal. I sold him the building, he fixes everything wrong with it and then sells it back to me for a little more than it costed. That way he makes profit and I get my building back and improved.”

“You think you’re the smartest man in the room, and that will be your downfall. And you know what? I’m going to enjoy watching it with a front row seat.” Without any explanation, I turn around, but don’t get too far when I hear the band stop their music and Ryan stands in the stage tapping his glass with a knife.

The whole room gets silent, all eyes on Ryan. When he knows he’s got everyone’s attention, he starts his speech.

“Welcome. As most of you know, my name is Ryan Blake, I’m the CEO of BlakeHill Corp and I’m very pleased to have all of you here. This party is in celebration of a new development of this very same building we’re at. This was the building that begun the empire of Walter Warren. And, after a full redesigning, it’s going to pass to the hands of Garreth Thompson as the base of his IT company, GIT.” Everyone is speechless at his words. Hunter and his dad have the exact same expression in their faces: raging anger.

A middle age man gets over to where Ryan is and shakes his hand. I’m assuming this is Garreth Thompson, and, judging for the way they smile at each other, he and Ryan must be really good friends.

Both Hunter and his father leave the party without a word. I assume they wouldn’t want to cause a scene after being humiliated like this in front of everyone. Garreth is giving a speech, but I drown his words the moment my eyes clash with Ryan. The way he’s looking at me says one thing, and one thing only.

This is just the beginning, and he won’t stop until he gets his revenge on everyone, especially me.
