Curses..... OH GODS, LEO-!

We've been walking for 2 continuous hours, its night, and I'm so hungry!

I know a complain a lot, but this is too much, I now regret fighting before eating, I know, I know, I'm stupid. I mean... who fights before eating?

Worst of all, all the shops and restaurants were closed, just my luck. As we walked the only thing distracting me from my rumbling stomach was Perseus, who was explaining about Camp Half-Blood and how it is the safest place for a Greek demi-human.

He explained his quests and whatnot, then he explained about when our dad Poseidon came to him a week ago telling him to pick me up, best part? He was worried, which lifted my spirits.

Then I told him my story, my mom an Egyptian magician who died in battle against some evil lord when I was 3, and why my dad visited me every once in a year during a full moon or something, I explained about Poseidon giving me money to survive with the mortals. And when he came to me this morning telling me to be prepared. 

"So, you live alone?" Percy asked giving me a worried glance 

"Kinda, but I never get that lonely! I have Jerold to keep my company!" I said 

"Jerold?" Hazel asked 

"Yeah, my goldfish. Best part is he didn't die yet!" Everyone looked at me clearly bothered. From behind I can hear Jerold's muffled complaints about the space already killing him, Piper cleared her throat 

"Leo, how far are we from the ship?" Leo pulled out a compass from his tool belt and studied it for a moment, I waited for him to say something, but he stayed silent until finally 

"We should arrive after an hour or so." He replied, my heart skipped a beat 

"AN HOUR? WE WON'T EAT FOR ANOTHER HOUR?!" he shrugged and slipped his compass back in his belt, 

"Don't worry, atleast we're not fighting anything." That's when he jinxed us, I felt a wave of energy from behind me, unlike anything I have ever seen. I turned so fast I almost fell, 

"Curse you, Leo. Eva what's wrong?" Percy asked, I scanned the neighborhood, looking for the source until I found it, charging straight towards us. Great, I thought now I'm hangry. 

I pulled out my sword and shouted to the others "Run! RUN LIKE THE WIND!" 

It was a Chimera, a Greek monster my dad warned me about, it had a lion in the forepart, a goat in the middle, and a dragon behind. Worst of all, it could breathe fire. And it did. 

"Duck!" Frank yelled, the Chimera fixed its eyes on me and roared, I realized why my dad was worried, it seemed its goal was to kill me. I charged at it, narrowly dodging its fire, it tried to scratch me multiple times, mostly to bite my head off but you know, no pressure.

I could hear Percy shouting, but couldn't see him, then I realized the others were fighting something else; Basilisks and hordes of them.

Why are they here? It's not normal for a bunch of fire breathing monsters to be here. I tried to focus on my own battle, but they were too distracting, big mistake. The Chimera hit me, I flew a few yards north, and gulped, that thing was fast and creepy but fast.

Jerold was shouting curses at me when I realized I landed on my backpack, I took it off and placed it beside me. I tried to stand, but the Chimera already loomed over me, it knocked me down, its claws digging into my back. I screamed and turned ignoring the pain of its claws digging deeper, I quickly slashed its paw clean. The Chimera stumbled backwards, shocked then it looked at me as if to say She cut my paw... THE AUDACITY! 

I was relieved my swords were even strong enough to damage the monster. I had no time to waste, I lunged onto its back then stabbed it, it yelped and started to jump around trying to shake me off until I lost my grip. I fell to my back, and cried out in pain

"Hey buddy, maybe we got off on the wrong start-" I slowly back away 

 The Chimera breathed fire at my direction, missing me by an inch. But it was so hot, my sword slipped out of my hand, I cursed; I'm losing my powers, I need water. I scanned the area looking for a source of water and found a little public bathroom at the side of the street, I scurried towards it, the Chimera was on my tail. 

Now, you might think you know where this is going and that I'll desperately shower myself with toilet water to get my powers back, think again. I willed the water from the sinks to obey my will, splashing myself with clear icy water. My powers returned almost immediately; I pulled out my extra ring from my pocket. It turned into a sword, and I charged, again. 

When I was under the beast's chin, I slid under it jabbing my sword at its belly. It froze, roared one last time. It fell over me; I crawled out of its corpse, my hands slipping over my own blood. I stood there, amazed, scared, and proud of my work as the corpse of the monster dissolved into my sword. When I turn, my friends are still fighting the horde of basilisks, I rush in to help them picking my other sword on the way. 

As I ran to them a wave of exhaustion hit me, I fell to my knees, my vision blurred. The gashes on my back swelled. Tears poured out of my eyes from the pain, then I fainted. 

DUN-DUN-DUUUN! (sorry) 

Never in my life have I thought of a sadder ending of Evangeline Hill...

I woke up with a start, headbutting Leo. "Ow! Girl! What did I do?" he backed away holding his forehead, I hear Annabeth sigh in relief. 

"We were worried." She said, then she handed me my two swords and food that looked unfamiliar 

"What's this?" I ask 

"Ambrosia, it should heal you right away but not fully." 

I hesitated then took a bite, my vision cleared, I felt the pain on my back slowly subsided. That's when I noticed Frank who was at the verge of tears, 

"I thought you were dead! Oh, gosh! You weren't breathing!" He almost hugged me then stopped himself "sorry." 

I smiled; "Thanks" 

"So where is this camp?" I said 

"New York. It won't take long to get there." 

"It's already midnight." Piper noted 

"We should get moving." Percy said 

He helped me to my feet, Leo got up and led us to the ship, 

"Welcome to the Argo II!" he said in open arms. I gasp, it was huge ship with weapons almost everywhere. The ship wasn't even touching the ground...?? The warship was like the ones in the movies TITANIC! Let's just hope it doesn't sink like the last one... 

Leo waved a Wii controller and smirked "Let's move it slowpokes. The food isn't gonna eat itself! This beauty is the one and only warship that can handle almost anything unlike the other Argo." 

I ran towards a bowl of apples and took one munching furiously "You know Leo *munch* if you hadn't jinxed us *munch* we could've *munch* been buddies" 

Leo smiled "As in a member of Team Leo?" I take a second to think then nod 

"What if I make dinner?" I nod furiously

When we all boarded into the ship, I hear Leo shout from the upper deck "EVA! CALL ME THE SUPREME COMMANDER OF THE ARGO II!" 

"Why?" 

"Because I'm the supreme commander of the Argo II. Duh!" he grunted "Can you believe her?" 

I follow his gaze to find a dragon head at the end of the ship, it creaked and turned his head to face Leo. 

I shriek "It's alive!!!" 

Leo laughs "This is Festus he used to a full bronze dragon-" he stared at the floor "But we had an accident... now he's the ultimate weapon who controls the entire ship! Right children?" 

They all nod except Frank who tilts his head "Seriously?" 

Leo decided to ignore him and continued prepping the ship for lunch- sorry launch (I'm kinda hungry, ok?) 

We sat down on the table in the mess hall or so they call it, for a long while we ate in silence then Percy fiddled with his cup being a typical half-blood he asked, "So Eva, what powers do you have?" 

 "Let's see," I bit my lower lip "I can control water, breath underwater, talk to underwater animals and horses, Pegasus, whatever. I can shapeshift ligaments of my body or whole but I'm still working on tha-" I hear Frank choke on his sandwich 

"Shapeshift?" he asked, I nod then continue. 

"-and I have the blessing of Ares." Percy scowled as if the name Ares bothered him 

"Ares blessed you? A child of Poseidon?" he asked 

"Yeah so?" 

"Nothing." I can hear the hatred in his tone and decided not to ask any more questions. 

After we finished eating Annabeth and Hazel led me to my room, it wasn't all spacious, but big enough for a bunk bed to stand at the side of the room, and a desk on the other side. I put my bag on the desk and ask, 

"This is mine?" the two girls nodded; I thanked them then shut the door, off to shower.  

When I was done, I heard a knock on my door. I open to see Grover who smiled

"Uh, we will arrive at the camp in half an hour or so. Be ready" then he rushed to the kitchen. 20 mins later, I hear a bell when I run out, I was struck by the beauty of their camp. I smelled strawberries in the air, half-bloods and satyrs playing in the fields some are sparring with fists or swords, I see cabins; tons each one unique in their own way.

At the side of camp, a young dragon curled around a tree, a golden object and statue. Scattered around the camp was also an archery field, sword fighting arena, a climbing wall with lava, a theatre I think, stables, an armoury, and a house or mansion. 

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Annabeth stood beside me; she watched the kids play around tagging each other then making a run for it. 

I nod "What's that?" I pointed at the golden object and the statue that stood next to it 

"That's the golden fleece. It protects camp and keeps it..." she spread her arms "Alive" 

"And that statue?" I asked; she studied it for a while before answering, "It's my mother." 

"Woah" the way she described the camp showed how dear it was to her. 

Minutes after we landed, campers started gathering around the ship, gawking at the ship as we got off. The campers departed around a man riding a horse, he walked to us and smiled. Up close I realized he wasn't a man but a centaur.

He was a man on waist and up but down... he was a white stallion. This shouldn't be surprising to me since my dad told me all about the Greek world, yet it made me giggle. 

"That's Chiron, a centaur. Half man half horse" Annabeth explained 

Chiron saw me and grinned "Evangeline Hill, was it?" 

He trudged towards me and shook my hand "I am Chiron, the camp activities director. Nice to meet you, Evangeline." 

"Call me Eva" I insist 

He gestured towards the big mansion "Come" he said "Walk with me, we have a lot to catch up on" Percy and the rest left me to Chiron, 

He showed me around a place called The Big House, it had four floors including a basement and an attic. A deck wrapped around the outside. It was painted baby-blue with a white trim. On the roof was a bronze eagle weathervane with wind chimes that turn into dryads as they spin. 

"Come sit" Chiron said as he sat down on a wheelchair, his horse legs were instantly swallowed by the chair and fake legs popped out instead. The fake legs had pink heels making him look like a girl from down, I burst into laugh, Chiron studied me and asked

"Wha- oh for heaven's sake! This is the SECOND TIME, STOLL!" he scanned the room as if looking for cameras, "I am sorry, it wasn't supposed to go like this." He draped a blanket on top of the fake legs showing only the tip of the heels "Please tell me everything" 

And so, I did, I told him a quick recap about my fight with the Chimera and how I met the others, I told him about my childhood and about Poseidon taking care of me. 

"What about your weaknesses?" 

"Uh, probably, heat. The longer a stay in the heat the more a lose my powers, if I find water, I'll regain my powers." I laugh "I'd be useless in the Sahara. Also, how did you know I had a weakness?" 

"All half-bloods have flaws, its normal for us. For now, let Percy take you to your cabin, you'll be-" a gust of wind blew around the room, I close my eyes when I open them, I see my dad standing in front of Chiron, who stared at him with wide eyes then bowed, the hologram of Poseidon smiled 

"Lord Poseidon, what a pleasant surprise." He said 

"Good to be here but-" he glanced at me, and his smile faded "Unfortunately it won't be a long visit. I've come with a request" he leaned towards Chiron and whispered something in his ear, the centaur's expression changed from confusion to panic to complete calm. 

Poseidon then turned to me and said "I am sorry, my girl. But I must go, Zeus doesn't like me spending time here. Goodbye sweetheart" I everted my eyes as a gust of wind blew over, then he disappeared. Chiron studied me then said "Well, I guess it's time for a quest."

Percy led me to the Poseidon cabin, he explained that each cabin is for a lord, and if you are unclaimed by your parent you go to the Hermes cabin. He told me to unpack quickly because it was high time for the feast to start, he also mentioned to scrape some of my food to the fire as an offering for the lords 

"Why would I do that? First, what a waste! Second, are we purposely teasing the lords that we're eating roast beef or something?" I asked, 

Percy chuckled "No, it's a sacrifice, ok? Now quickly unpack or you'll be late on your first day." Behind him a couple of kids around my age crowded the room, "Um...?" 

Percy looked around at the kids who regarded me 

"Oh sorry. These are your new roommates/siblings" Percy gestured to a young woman, she was tall and had an athletic build, with auburn hair and piercing blue eyes.

"This is Olivia Grant, one of our recent campers here. And this is Ethan Sullivan" Ethan shook my hand and smiled, he had messy brown hair and glasses his green eyes sparkled with curiosity. 

Percy turned to a girl who sat in the back watching "Sophia Rodriguez" Sophia stepped forward and shook my hand, she was elegant and sophisticated, with dark hair and a stony expression. 

"Max Thompson" Max looked tall and commanding, with blond hair, brown eyes and a stern gaze. 

"And finally, Lily Chen" She was sleek and well-dressed, with slicked-back red hair and a confident demeanor. 

"Guys, this is Eva. Sorry, I mean Evangeline Hill" I try to give a smile a few returned it while others just stared. 

"Well! Nice to meet you, Evangeline. I can see this is a little much for you. It's ok, take your time to get used to it. We'll be outside at the campfire." Olivia stepped forward and put on a polite smile then turned to the others who followed her example and left the cabin, Ethan glanced at me with a charmed smile then rushed to catch up with the rest.

Percy smiled "I think you guys will get along just fine" he winks then leaves the cabin. 

 I stare at Percy's fountain, a dolphin water fountain to call using Iris messages that recently broke but Percy explained how our brother was a cyclops and how he can fix anything that is broken. He was probably just being nice. I glance at the fountain again 

"It's so cute." I muttered 

The muffled complaints grew louder as I opened the bag

"Hi Jerold"

I pull his water bag out of and dunk him in a small tank, 

"What type of sick transportation is this?!" he complained 

"I was the one getting hurt!" I argued 

"YOU sat on ME!" 

I roll my eyes "Is the tank big enough for you?" he nods, 

"Then hush, I gotta finish" I said 

After I finished unpacking a bell rang signaling us that it was time for the Feast, I ran outside to join the others, everyone was singing a sing along about armor and grandmas, it was fun watching as the campers sang, make fun of each other, and laugh.

The campfire around us burned different colors depending on the mood of the campers. The louder they sang the brighter it got, turning from red to orange to gold. Finally, the song ended with a round of applause, Chiron trotted over and said

"Very nice! And a special welcome to our new arrivals. If I haven't already introduced myself, I am Chiron, the camp activities director, and I'm happy to see you all arrive with most of your limbs attached. The s'mores are around the corner if anyone would like some." 

"What about capture the flag?" someone yelled, grumbling broke around the campers in armor. Chiron shook his head "Due to... some reasons we cannot proceed with the games this summer. I am sorry." more grumbling. 

Percy was scraping part of his food to the fire when he saw me, he smiled "Just in time, come join me" he sat down on the Poseidon table and I joined him, taking a small piece of meat from my plate and burning it. 

Grover ran to us frowning "You guys started without me?" 

Percy shrugged "Sorry G-man, I didn't expect you to join us today. Come sit." He tapped the empty seat beside him, and Grover sat down munching not only the vegetables but the plate too. 

Chiron stood in front of all the tables and said "We have a quest! Demanded by the lord Poseidon himself" half-bloods pounded on their tables, I hear numerous campers muttering, 

Chiron stomped his hooves to silence the campers, everyone glanced at a young girl with red hair. She stood and walked to Chiron; he nods. The girl closes her eyes and swoons, two campers ran to catch her as if it was normal, another camper brought a prepared stool and sat the girl down. 

"That's Rachel, our Oracle. She tells us a prophecy before letting us go on a quest." Ethan explained. Rachel opens her eyes, they were glowing. Emerald smoke issued her mouth, her voice came out raspy and ancient. 

"Thou shall face the wrath of the king's fire 

Masquerading as human, battling to fulfil his desires 

Friend and foe link in arms to thwart the anger of the one below 

Betrayed by one who yields the bow 

Daughter of Neptune shall tread the blistered kingdom 

For destiny shall lie in her hands 

Northward they lie in wait for their freedom 

Only to find death lingering within the sand." 

The girl closes her eyes and falls the campers pick her up and rests her head on a log. 

Everyone's eyes were on me "What?" 

Chiron studies me for a moment then says, "It is obvious the quest is led by a child of Poseidon, and lord Poseidon suspected it might be you, Evangeline." I gulp 

"You may pick thre-" he stops himself "Oh.... Poseidon already picked your companions" 

More murmurs, I tilt my head 

"He chose these seven campers. Annabeth Chase, Hazel Levesque, Piper Mclean, Percy Jackson, Nico di Angelo, Leo Valdez, and Franck Zhang-" 

"Isn't that against the ancient laws? That's way over three!" A girl from the Demeter cabin said and sat down to a lot of yelling and complaining, which caused the fire to sputter chaotically. Chiron stamped his hoof against the fire pit stones –bang, bang, bang- and the campers fell silent. 

"I know it is but lord Poseidon suspects this is a continue of the last Great Prophecy. It's best we go with his wishes and wish these campers the best of luck!" 

The campers around us roared, clapping, cheering, some grumbled 

"The day after tomorrow you shall set out on you quest! You go northeast half-bloods" 

"We all wish you the best of luck!" 

Lily Chen ruffled my hair and smiled, "Your very first quest on your first day! Congrats!" 

I smile, next to me, Percy smacks his forehead and sighs "Here we go again..." 

Shortly after the feast, Percy said he needed to go call his mom, leaving me wandering around camp. I spot a girl storm towards me, she was a tall young woman, having the height of a basketball player and the body of a rugby player. She had dark eyes, pale brown hair, and a vicious sneer. She had a scar on her chin and her long hair was cut short and raggy. 

"Evangeline, I suppose?" I slowly nod, she eyes me up and down "You-" a man walks towards us and smiles "Welcome to camp half-blood Eva. Is it ok for me to call you that?" 

I nod, he steps forward and shakes my hand "Chris Rodriguez, this is Cl-" the girl scowled "Tch" then she leaves, 

"I'm very sorry about Clarisse, she's actually pretty nice when you get to know her." he glances back at the direction she went "I gotta go. Nice to meet you!" he waves and runs to her. 

Someone from behind me whispered "Don't mind Clarisse, she's always like this but meaner... You're lucky Chris saved you; she would've shoved your face in the toilet" 

I jump, a young man with shaggy, messy black hair, pale skin, and brown eyes stood before me. He studied me then said "Nico di Angelo, the guy you're going on a quest with?" I extend my hand to shake but he refuses. 

"So, her name is Clarisse?" 

"Yeah, she's the daughter of Ares." 

"You're a son of Hades, right?" he nods not questioning how I knew, but his expression turned guarded as if I crossed his personal bubble or something. 

"Nico!"

A kid ran up to him and clapped his back, he had surfer-dude body, shaggy blond hair, blue eyes, and having an athletic build, unlike Nico, he shook my hand and said

"Will Solace, child of Apollo, this camp's doc, Nico's what did you want me to say again?" he glances at Nico and smiled "Oh yeah, Nico's special friend or significant other, and doctor." he chuckles "Right Sunshine?" Nico remains still, Will frowned then cleared his throat 

"Right Sunshine?" Nico nods 

He then brushed Will's hand of his shoulder and said, "It's getting late, I... should probably go. Sorry Will, emergency underworld stuff to get to." then dissolved into the shadows leaving me and Will alone. 

Will scoffs "I can't believe him! There is no way he did it again, and in front of m-" he looks at me as if just noticing I was still there, "I should probably go to sleep. You should too! DOCTOR'S ORDERS" he says as he laughs and runs to the Apollo cabin. 

I go to the Poseidon cabin, Percy was at the door staring at his bed which was now ransacked, panicked I look at mine. 

"MY CHOCOLATES! And stuff, BUT MOSTLY MY CHOCOLATES!" I search under the bed, in the drawers but they were nowhere "What type of devil would do this?" I demanded. Percy looked just as confused 

"I don't know. But all our things are gone and your worried about your chocolates?" 

I gasp dramatically "I'll pretend you never said that." 

Olivia and Ethan walked in, absorbing the situation before Ethan gasped and checked his bed "Wh-! My stuff!" Olivia walked over "What stuff?" 

"My books duh!" Olivia frowns 

"Since when did you start reading?" 

"I read!" she rolls her eyes and looked at me as if to say can you believe him?  

"I'm too tired for this. We'll report it in the morning. 'Night" Percy closed the lights. I sigh, when I figure out who touched my stuff, hoo-wee they'll be in for a lot. 

"I know who did it." said Jerold, Percy turned so fast he fell on his bed "Wha-?" 

"Oh, sorry this is the fish I was talking about. Percy, Jerold. Jerold, Percy" I introduced 

"Uh-huh. Who did it?" Percy asked 

"Some kid covering her face with the hood of her jacket" he answered 

"Honestly Jerold. You're so observant!" I said, Jerold hissed in his tank 

"Shut up! I was half asleep, ok?"
