The Idle times couldn't last.
I took off my hand and looked towards the entrance. The darkness, enshrined in the tight space, tore off any light that could enter, but that wasn't an issue for someone who would inherit the sky.
[You have used Sun Magic!]
The mana in my heart stirred, and the air grew warm, and sparks began to fly.
How could a sun be cold?
I found it a nuisance, so it chilled, the law of the sun conforming to my will.
And so, a tiny orb of flames flew above my shoulders. A miniature sun, made up purely of mana, a magic intrinsic to the sky dragons.
As I evolved into a new stage of life, a new piece of the inheritance was unlocked, which was uniquely for sky dragons.
Sky dragons were...
Not a thing.
The memories in my head were strangely arranged; a sky dragon was a higher form of a dragon, a mythical race that could only be appointed by a king.
My eye twitched, while my brow furrowed.
That was basic enough, and it would have made plenty of sense. That is, if there were a king who appointed me.
I myself was a King, and from what I just learned, there could only be one.
The corners of my lips curved downward, and I was glad I was at the forefront. It was important to keep the decorum of an older brother.
If I showed worry, who knows how my cute sister would react?
So, I chalked it up to just another thing I didn't know.
Couldn't say I was so happy to be in the dark. Especially with so many things, I didn't understand, which was beginning to outweigh what I did know.
Thankfully, the inheritance didn't just bring questions. I now knew how to speak basic and could translate any language into our own.
Of course, it wasn't just that, which brought a question to my head.
What were dragons? If I had the opportunity, I would sit down and stroke my chin. I would start to ponder questions that one shouldn't wonder.
In truth, this wasn't a question I had before I ascended for a brief moment. When I was just a dragon, it felt so natural that I didn't even question it.
Just what was an inheritance? Or the principle behind it.
Connecting with the sky opened my eyes; there was something godlike about the inheritance.
Or almost godlike.
How useful would that have been as a human, I lamented, no school, no university, straight to work.
Never mind, I shuddered internally. Still, it would save plenty of time learning things. But wasn't that what made Dragons so lazy? So prideful, so greedy?
I mean, it wasn't as simple as just learning new languages. It was everything a dragon needed to survive and more. It was a lesson in our history, what our specific dragon breed was, and how glorious we were. All the magic that our little dragon bodies can handle was ingrained into our brains on how to cast, and what amount of mana we needed.
Not that I was little by any means.
Bottom line, it was something too good to ignore, I could only thank the ancestors or the dragon god that created the inheritance.
Perhaps I'd learn the truth at the next inheritance.
I doubted it.
[Brother, shall we go make sure that the soup maker still lives?] Her head tilted slightly as she asked, her blue scale glowing faintly.
It drew my attention.
Would a head sprout from there? If I remembered correctly, in her future form, those weren't there.
I internally shook my head.
[Yes.]
Talking about the future, our sleep was to evolve, and if I became something as mythical as a Sky Dragon.
What did she become?
Her appearance wasn't much different; the only thing I noticed was that she appeared more regal, but that was all.
I focused the mana on my eyes.
[T?am?t]
[Lvl.12]
[R?}ie]
[?????Qu?n?Dra??n.]
[R?l??]
[Deity]
I wish I could say I was glad I could see more, but it only looked like it had gotten worse.
The only words I could make out were, Queen and dragon. But at least now I could see her level, I turned towards the entrance and started walking towards it.
[Do you feel different?] I asked while looking at her.
She snorted, the fire leaving her nostrils, and she shifted back as if uncomfortable.
[Stronger.] Her words were curt, as if not to say more.
Do dragons enter puberty this quickly? Just seconds ago, she was enjoying my head pats, and now she was dodging my questions.
[Is that all?] I cocked an eyebrow, or at least what a dragon could. My eyes, digging into her golden black slitted eyes.
[I myself have become a Sky Dragon.] My words did nothing to encourage her, only causing her to shrink further.
[How fitting.] She spared me a glance and turned sideways. Her silence hung in the air.
This...
[A Night Dragon.] She finally managed to say with some difficulty.
Her words didn't really alleviate my mood; night was the time chaos prevailed. Didn't that snake claim to be a priest of hers? I hoped my sneaking suspicion wasn't right.
Not that it mattered, if the world was against us, I would crush it and remake it in the perfect image.
That was a bit extreme.
Those thoughts weren't even mine, well, not entirely.
[Are you disappointed?] She asked, with her eyes darting around, avoiding mine. Her tail, which wagged when I pet her, was tucked away and stiff.
Sometimes, I forget she was a child, a very young one at that. Even with the inheritance, it didn't change that she was born this year.
[In you?] I Snorted [Never.] I put my hand on top of her hair and ruffled her hair, or rather her scales, and not really ruffled it.
But it seemed to work, to help the dampened mood.
Her golden jewels widened, and the dark room, only lit by the small sun, brightened, without the help of magic.
[That wasn't all, brother, I also received a Fire Dragon's inheritance, and a partial Blue Dragon's.] That wasn't as surprising, she already looked like a fire dragon, I was the freak.
The corners of her lips twitched, as if she were proud of receiving so many. She continued to talk about the various amounts of magic she learned, as she walked with her head held up high.
Soon, we made it to the entrance of the cave.
What surprised me wasn't seeing the actual sun in a long time, no, it was the giant statue of my sister and me destroying the False Mir.
My Wings were outstretched as my claws were about to grip his body, while my sister was breathing fire, the Mir's fear was palpable in its stony form. The detail was incredible, even I, who was depicted, couldn't help but marvel.
How did Hathor and the rest manage to make this in a couple of months? Attributing it to Niles' prowess in earth magic, I just admired the statue.
My admiration didn't last long, as my eyes spotted two Humans, with their mouths wide open, standing guard at the entrance. They wore fur clothing and held sticks that resembled spears, with silver daggers at their hilts.
Had humans invaded the otherworld?
It was a question I didn't have to ponder long.
The wagging tail and the wolf's ear were a dead giveaway of their identities, not to mention the half-bitten moons in their eyes.
[Harry Lvl.20 Moon-Swallowing Wolves.]
It also gave a brief description of their race, meaning it was the same one that I had subjugated earlier.
[Fred Lvl.21 Moon-Swallowing Wolves.]
Very humanlike names.
Before I could even ask a question, the one on the right, Fred, spoke, and immediately kneeled; the other followed. The ground cracked from the force of their knees hitting the floor.
He took off his little fur cap and placed his hand on his heart.
"We greet the Great Dragon Lords." They spoke in unison; their voices filled with unwavering reverence.
Which was odd since I couldn't remember us having wolves that could transform into Human form.
[Yes, this is the greeting we deserve.] My sister chuckled.
I ignored her and spoke in basic.
"Rise." My great voice boomed out, or I wished it did. Since I was still in a juvenile form, my voice wasn't as regal as I had wanted.
They nodded, and kept their heads bowed, one turned to the other and spoke in a hushed tone.
"The great Dragons have arisen, inform the Prime Minister at once."
No sound could be hidden from a dragon.
Prime Minister? I did my best to restrain my face from scrunching up in confusion. Is that what Hathor has them calling him?
One would think we really were a kingdom.
Harry scurried off, his form shifting into a wolf, as he leaped into the sky, ice gracing his feet, presumably to fetch Hathor.
As we waited, I stopped myself from asking questions that would stain the dignity of a king.
After a while, a man arrived, and he was skating through the air. His form was graceful, and he moved like the wind. His silver hair trailed behind him, while his Moon-like eyes glowed. He had a luxurious silver robe, one would expect from a noble, and small horns on his forehead.
Hathor.
Our connection was irrefutable. There was no need to verify his identity; my blood flowed through him.
I almost whistled. He sure did get an upgrade. Was it because my blood, which flowed inside of him, also reacted to my evolution?
He twisted his heel and stopped before us, his knees hitting the ground as he kissed the floor.
[My lords, you have arisen.] He spoke in a joyous tone, his awkward way of speaking in dragon now as fluent as a baby dragon.
He banged his forehead on the floor, a crack forming where his head landed.
Suppressing a grimace, I used mana to prevent him from doing it again.
The corners of his lips curved upwards like a crescent moon, his teeth a clear reminder of his heritage, popped out.
"If that is your will, my lord." he whispered as he banged his chest.
[I apologize for the unsightly greeting. I wished for a parade to be thrown in your honor upon your awakening, but that dastardly bear prevented it from being so.] He continued to rattle on about how the bear said it was too expensive to have a parade ready every day.
Parade? And since when did we have money? The more he spoke, the more confused I got.
[There is no need.] I stopped him. A parade for just waking up after a couple of months, did this little mutt go insane?
[Ah, to witness your glorious form once more, it is truly my honor. I hope you enjoyed the statue; I myself had it installed, so it was the first thing you saw.] His eyes glistened as he spoke, while a tail that was previously invisible sprouted and began to wag.
[Very impressive, Hathor, to make a statue that grand in only a couple of months.] Praise left my lips as I raised him with my mana. It wasn't merely empty words.
The statue truly did look lifelike.
He dusted himself off before starting to speak.
[A couple of months, my liege?] His full moon eyes looked at us incredulously, much like the first time we rose from slumber.
[You are mistaken, my liege, you have been in slumber for Five Years.]
We were sleeping for five years???
