Chapter 9 Waiting for the Flower to Bloom

Lucas POV

Adrian swept into the office, holding up a file with a tight smile. “I got the report.”

He approached as he expounded on his findings, every word faded as my focus strayed. Whenever my mind drifted back to my last physical treatment with Alicia, I could not help but chuckle internally. The memory played in my head like a teasing whisper—her touch—the grip she had when she was losing control on the edge of her breaking point. She had been amused by my reactions, yes, but more than that, she had wanted something from me. Something primal. Something human.

She wanted to see me blush.

The idea itself was almost endearing. Blush? She expected warmth to bloom beneath my skin, for color to betray my desire as it would on a human. But I was not human. I was a vampire—an existence outside the realm of mortality, outside the vulnerabilities of a beating heart and rushing blood. That simple physical reaction she craved. I was beyond such a biological boundary.
