Chapter 7 A Surprising New Home

Alicia POV

It was kinda weird, right?

I don’t know. Maybe it was paranoia, burrowing into my mind like maggots, wriggling into every crevice of my thoughts, and laying eggs of suspicion. I just found it… convenient. Too convenient.

I mean, right when Kayla and I received the worst news after a harrowing ordeal. We were about to be homeless. Evicted. Cast out like trash onto the streets, with nowhere to go and no miracle in sight.

And then, like clockwork, Lucas appeared, descending like something God-given.

Lucas donned the mantle of a savior once again, appearing when I needed him most like my own angel. A fallen one, maybe, with how unnervingly good he was at this whole swoop in and rescue the helpless girl act.

And damn it, he looked the part, too. That face—too sculpted to be real and body that was godly. He moved like someone who knew exactly how much power he held over people—Alicia, focus.
