Alicia POV
“Try it again,” I urged.
“Seriously,” she groaned, tossing me an exasperated look.
My brows leaped to my hairline. “I’m sorry, would you prefer to be stranded on a random road?”
“Fair point.”
She turned the key in the ignition for the fifth time, the sound of the engine lurched, stuttering a few beats before failing. Kayla turned it again, another series of spluttering before it gave out and Kayla hit the wheel in frustration.
“It’s a dud… after all these years, now the engine decides to seize up.”
“To be fair, there’s no convenient time to have your car break down.”
She turned her head slowly to glare at me, eyes as sharp as a dulled edge.
I cleared my throat, looking for a way to end the awkwardness.“You should look under the hood,” I suggested.
