Chapter 30 Building Trust Amidst Crisis

Alicia’s POV

I had just slipped on my shoes and was reaching for my bag when there was a knock at the door.

Lucas.

He didn’t even wait for me to ask who it was. Just stepped forward, one hand lightly holding the doorframe. His expression was unreadable. Not cold, not exactly warm either—just focused.

“You’re going somewhere?” he asked, eyes flicking to the bag on my shoulder.

I nodded. “Dinner. With Leo.”

His gaze didn’t shift, but his tone did. “You shouldn’t go out right now.”

I frowned. “Why not?”

He lowered his voice slightly. “The FBI is watching. They’ve stationed agents outside.”

I blinked. “What?”

Lucas looked serious. “They’ve been circling since morning. It’s too risky for you to leave the house until this matter is resolved.”

“I… I thought they were just random SUVs,” I said, half-laughing. “Why would the FBI be interested in me?”
