Chapter 26 Shadows and Truth

Vampire Queen’s POV

I could’ve snapped into the middle of the terminal like a bolt of lightning, silenced the screaming with a flick of my hand, and been gone before the security guards wet themselves.

But I wasn’t here to show off. I was here to clean up a mess—one that Lucas clearly didn’t understand. And I couldn’t afford to risk damaging my vessel just because some human might drop their Starbucks and point a phone at me.

So I crawled through a vent.

A filthy, narrow vent shaft, barely wide enough for my shoulders. I moved slowly, pressing elbows into metal, letting dust cling to Alicia’s skin. I hated every second of it. The smell, the noise, the weakness of this body’s joints after weeks of confinement.

Still, it was necessary.

I paused near the final shaft opening above the baggage claim. The humans below scrolled, shuffled, stared blankly at luggage spinning in circles. None of them looked up.
