Opening the heavy lid of the crate, it was filled to the brim with weapons and equipment, but they had all been reduced to useless scrap parts.
Harrington gasped, "Sir, this is..."
I remained expressionless as I tossed the parts in my hand into the fire.
"You see this? This is Sarah's idea of a gift to cheer me up."
"Blood is thicker than water, I suppose. To repay a debt of gratitude, she's content to watch Emily treat me like a dog..."
"Those people out there are willing to believe lies simply because they need a reason to hurt me."
"But Harrington, only a fool keeps playing the fool. I'm done sacrificing for them."
"Look at this shell casing. It looks tough, like it could protect the bullet inside."
"But in reality, once the bullet's gone, it's less than worthless."
I gently caressed the smooth casing, smiling:
"Harrington, I used to be a complete and utter fool."
Without the hard bullet inside, the empty shell deforms at the slightest impact.
