"You don't let it go, do you? I told you it's for the child, for the child. Don't you understand?"
"Should my child be talked about behind their back as a bastard? Langdon is so young, should people call him a homewrecker? Isn't it right for me to give them a legitimate status?"
I closed my eyes, no longer able to contain the grief and anger in my heart. Ever since she said she wanted to be child-free, to stop the rumors, I voluntarily got a vasectomy. To everyone else, she claimed I was the one who couldn't have children.
No one says anything to my face, but behind my back, they all mock me as a spineless wimp.
Especially in recent years, as the Shaw Clan weathered the crisis and business boomed, everyone's gaze towards me changed. They look at me with disdain and mockery, thinking I married up with Seraphina, selling myself for glory.
So it turns out Langdon needs to save face, but I don't.
"Seraphina, are you saying I'm the other woman?"
I looked at Seraphina desolately. Ten years of love, twenty years as childhood sweethearts, turns out it was all just a joke.Seraphina fell silent, then after a long pause, she said,
"Rylan, all these years, I haven't mistreated you. I gave you the position of Vice President in the Shaw Clan and let you mingle in high society as a member of the Shaw family. How are you still not satisfied?"
"I'm the heir to the Shaw family, but I'm also my own person. I want a child. Do I need your permission for that?"
I suddenly laughed. Yeah, why should I demand anything from her? What is she to me?
It was all just me being overly sentimental, willingly debasing myself.
"Get lost, Seraphina. You make me sick. Stay as far away from me as possible from now on."
Seraphina's face instantly turned pale. She stammered,
"Rylan, how can you say such things to me?"
Langdon suddenly flew into a rage, slapping me upside the head,
"Who the fuck are you calling sick?"
"Dare to talk about Seraphina like that, I'll fucking kill you."
Saying this, he dragged me to the ground, kicking me furiously.
Standing at six-foot-one and a graduate of the sports academy, I tried to kick back, but he sent me crashing into the wall with one kick. I fell and rolled over several times.Langdon was about to kick again when the door suddenly opened.
"Stop!"
With an angry shout, several policemen filed in.
Ten minutes later, I sat in the police station, battered and covered in cold sweat.
Beside me, Seraphina was frantically explaining to the police,
"Officers, it's all a misunderstanding. We're on the same side."
Langdon glared at me with narrowed eyes,
"You bastard, if you dare disrespect my darling again, I'll beat you up. I'll beat you until you submit."
The officer looked at me sternly,
"Did you call the police?"
I nodded and said expressionlessly,
"Officer, Langdon broke two of my ribs and knocked out a tooth last night. Today he came to the hospital room to beat me again. Please investigate and deal with this seriously."
The officer turned to Langdon,
"Mr. Langdon, what do you have to say about these accusations?"
Langdon stuck out his neck and said angrily,
"Yes, I beat him. He deserved it. He insulted my darling. If I didn't teach him a lesson, I wouldn't be a man."The police officer looked at the medical records and spoke with gravity,
"But you've inflicted serious injuries on him. If this is pursued legally, you'll face consequences. If the victim insists on pressing charges, you're looking at a minimum of five years."
"Your best option is to apologize to the injured party and resolve this privately."
When Langdon heard about the potential five-year sentence, his expression changed slightly, but he remained stubborn,
"It's not my fault he's weak and can't take a hit. Don't try to pin this on me."
Seeing this, Seraphina approached me,
"Rylan, you can understand Langdon's youthful impulsiveness, and your words were indeed harsh, which is why he got angry."
"Young man, having some fire in your blood is a good thing. You can't be spineless like Rylan here. Just let it go. Tell you what, I'll make it up to you. I'll spend time with you on odd days, and with him on even days. How's that sound?"
