The blast thundered through the villa.

The sound came first—deafening, rolling like a cannon through marble and bone—then the heat followed.

A roar of flame swallowed the horizon outside the window. Fire burst through the garden line, the trees igniting like paper dolls soaked in oil. The outer glass shattered from the pressure wave, blowing inward in a spray of shards and choking smoke.

The entire villa ignited.
