Halvia, Riagard, Sarake, and Hyldia had been dispatched by Sylene to a volcanic region within the VR WORLD, their mission: to confront the Earth Boss. The very air in this place thrummed with a malevolent heat, the ground a desolate expanse of blackened, charred earth. Geysers erupted sporadically, and miniature volcanoes dotted the landscape, each spewing forth molten lava. Above, the sky bled a crimson hue, partially veiled by a thick, oppressive black smoke. Their path led them towards a colossal volcano that loomed before them, an insurmountable peak they were tasked with scaling.
The four admins trod across the scalding black terrain, their footsteps echoing in the oppressive silence, their destination the formidable volcano ahead. It was Hyldia who broke the quiet, her voice laced with a hint of apprehension. "Why must we venture into the very heart of this volcano?"
Halvia, ever the pragmatist, responded, "I'm not sure if you were paying attention, Hyldia, but Sylene clearly stated that the boss's portal resides at the volcano's core. Therefore, we have no choice but to ascend it."
Hyldia's brow furrowed, a visible pout forming on her lips. "Ugh, why do we have to go all the way up there!"
Riagard, his gaze fixed on the distant peak, offered a stern reminder. "Cease your complaints, Hyldia. Our duty is to vanquish the boss and safeguard the VR WORLD."
Sarake, ever the optimist, chimed in, "Indeed! Once we succeed, the VR WORLD will return to its former glory, and we can finally enjoy ourselves without restraint, especially now that those pesky glitches are a thing of the past."
A sudden prickling sensation ran down Halvia's spine. She halted, her hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of her nodachi. "Everyone, remain vigilant!"
In an instant, the four admins shifted into combat stances, their senses heightened. The air around them shimmered, and from the molten ground, grotesque humanoid figures of solidified lava began to coalesce. With silent, menacing intent, they surged towards the admins.
Without a word, the four heroes drew their weapons, their innate abilities flaring to life. The battle was joined.
Several of the lava constructs lunged at Riagard, their molten limbs reaching out with searing intent. Riagard stood his ground, a powerful brown aura erupting from his body. With a series of earth-shattering punches, he met their advance, the force of his blows shattering the solidified lava with each impact. The sheer displacement of air from his fists was enough to pulverize the very molten rock. With blinding speed, Riagard weaved through the enemy ranks, each precise and potent punch felling another lava monstrosity.
Others turned their attention to Sarake, their forms radiating intense heat. But Sarake was a whirlwind of motion, her spear a blur of swift slashes and piercing thrusts. From the very earth beneath their feet, sharp, thorny roots erupted, ensnaring and impaling the lava creatures, decapitating some and skewering others with brutal efficiency.
Halvia, a phantom of white energy, met the onrushing lava beings with a flurry of rapid strikes from her nodachi. Her movements were so swift they left afterimages in the smoky air. The lava monsters, sensing her power, converged, merging into a single, towering behemoth. It swung a massive, molten arm towards her, but Halvia channeled a brilliant white energy into her nodachi and unleashed a devastating vertical slash. A shockwave of pure force ripped through the air, cleaving the lava giant in two, its molten form collapsing into a pool of hissing, cooling rock.
A mass of the remaining lava creatures descended upon Hyldia, their fiery forms promising immolation. Yet, Hyldia remained unmoving, a potent spatial aura, a mesmerizing blend of pink, violet, and yellow, radiating from her. Then, with a silent command, a storm of razor-sharp spatial blades materialized around her. They danced through the air, a deadly ballet of energy, slicing through the lava monsters. Each contact was devastating, the spatial energy shearing away portions of their molten bodies, leaving behind only crumbling remnants.
Minutes later, the last of the magma monsters lay vanquished, their forms cooling into inert rock. The four admins, weary but victorious, continued their ascent towards the imposing volcano. Reaching its base, they discovered a solitary, winding path leading upwards. An hour of arduous climbing brought them to the rim of the volcanic cone. Peering down into the abyss, they were met only by an impenetrable darkness.
Riagard voiced the unspoken thought, "I had hoped the portal would be up here. It appears we must descend into this darkness."
Hyldia's eyes widened in disbelief. "Descend?! Are you insane?!"
Halvia, ever the pragmatist, countered, "This seems to be our only avenue to the volcano's depths. It may appear dormant, but we won't know for certain until we reach the bottom."
Hyldia's voice rose in protest. "Are you all mad?! If we perish down there, we'll never return to the VR WORLD!"
Sarake, his usual enthusiasm undimmed, exclaimed, "Look at the bright side, Hyldia! We'll get to run on the walls of a volcano!"
Hyldia threw her hands up in exasperation. "You're all utterly mad!"
Halvia's tone brooked no further argument. "Enough, Hyldia. We have a duty to fulfill. If any of us fall in battle, it will not be due to weakness, but because they failed to give their absolute all!"
With Halvia's resolute words, and despite Hyldia's lingering apprehension, all four of them plunged into the volcanic crater. They began to run with incredible speed along the inner walls of the volcano, their movements defying gravity.
As the four admins descended deeper, grotesque arms of molten lava erupted from the rock walls, snaking out to seize them. Instantly, they retaliated. Sarake, utilizing her innate connection to the earth, conjured sharp, thorny roots that lashed out, impaling the lava hands and clearing their path. Riagard, with powerful leaps, used the extending lava arms as temporary footholds, delivering crushing kicks that shattered the molten appendages, propelling him further downwards. Halvia became a blur of motion, her nodachi a silver streak, unleashing a relentless barrage of slashes that severed every lava arm that dared to reach for her. Hyldia, her eyes glowing with spatial energy, conjured a whirlwind of shimmering spatial blades that effortlessly sliced through the encroaching lava limbs, clearing their descent.
Finally, they reached the bottom, landing on a bed of cooled, black volcanic rock. There was no sign of the boss, only the inert stone beneath their feet. But then they saw it: embedded in the rock, an arch-shaped portal pulsed with an ominous red energy.
Halvia's voice was low and serious. "This is the boss's portal. From this point onward, we must be absolutely serious."
Without hesitation, the four admins stepped through the portal and found themselves in an immense, desolate expanse of jagged rock that stretched to the horizon. Deep fissures crisscrossed the landscape, glowing with veins of molten lava, and the sky above was a sickly orange hue. The four admins immediately adopted combat stances, their senses on high alert.
Suddenly, the entire realm shuddered violently. From the depths of the earth, a colossal figure began to rise, its form towering at least a thousand meters into the sky. It was a being of pure, incandescent lava and raging fire. Only its massive torso, head, and immense arms were visible above the ground, all composed of swirling, molten rock. It had no legs, its lower body seemingly fused with the earth.
The four admins instinctively recoiled as the gargantuan being attempted to crush them with a sweeping, fiery hand that scorched the very air in its wake. But Halvia, her nodachi crackling with white energy, unleashed a devastating vertical slash that cleaved through the molten arm just inches from their faces.
In a flash of movement, Riagard lunged forward, appearing directly before the boss's immense face. He channeled a massive amount of brown energy into his right arm and unleashed a punch of unimaginable force that shattered the boss's very features. However, the sheer heat radiating from the colossal being was so intense that Riagard's arm was instantly and severely burned, forcing him to stumble back to the ground.
With terrifying speed, the boss's shattered face regenerated in a torrent of flames, and it unleashed a scorching blast of fiery breath towards Hyldia. But Hyldia reacted instantly, conjuring a swirling vortex of spatial blades that intercepted and dissipated a significant portion of the inferno, leaving her unscathed.
Sarake, despite the immense scale of the foe, didn't hesitate. He willed the very earth to obey him, and a vast network of thorny roots erupted around the lava behemoth, attempting to constrict its massive form. But the roots, mere plant matter against such intense heat, immediately burst into flames. Halvia pressed the attack, her nodachi a blur of silver, each strike slicing through the boss's flames, but the molten energy regenerated without pause.
Then, a determined glint entered Sarake's eyes. He channeled his admin powers, his form shimmering with emerald light. "Admin mode instal! Roots of purgatory!"
An unbelievable transformation occurred. Countless roots erupted around Sarake, twisting and intertwining, growing and solidifying until they formed a colossal humanoid figure, as large as the lava boss itself. It was a towering construct of living wood and sharp thorns, a giant root robot with two massive legs, two powerful arms, an enormous torso, and a head where Sarake now resided, his eyes glowing with green energy.
With a roar, Sarake, piloting his wooden behemoth, swung a massive root-fist towards the lava boss. But the moment the woody tendrils made contact with the molten skin, they erupted in flames. Undeterred, Sarake roared again, lashing out with the other arm. With a single, contemptuous blow, the lava boss shattered the left arm of Sarake's creation. Then, with its right arm, it delivered a devastating punch to the root robot's stomach, creating a swirling vortex of fire and splintered wood. Sarake, refusing to yield, attempted a desperate headbutt, but the lava boss unleashed a torrent of fire from its maw, engulfing the head of Sarake's construct, silencing his control. The root robot, now a burning wreck, began to crumble.
Amidst the falling debris, Riagard, his burned arm throbbing, dodged the splintered wood and roared, "Admin mode instal! Strength for power!"
An immense red aura exploded from Riagard's body. The energy lines on his enhanced gloves and boots blazed with an intense crimson light. He moved with reckless abandon, closing the distance to the lava boss's chest and unleashing a punch of terrifying force, so powerful that it actually staggered the colossal being. While Riagard hammered away at the boss's torso, a whirlwind of white and violet energy began to circle the behemoth. Halvia and Hyldia, moving at supersonic speeds, rained down a relentless barrage of rapid slashes. Halvia's white energy blades sliced through the boss's flames with impossible speed, while Hyldia's spatial blades carved away chunks of molten rock, their edges shimmering with otherworldly power. The boss, struggling to track their movements, roared in frustration, unable to retaliate effectively.
Suddenly, a brilliant golden light began to coalesce within the boss's chest. The key, a tangible manifestation of its immense power and the damage it had sustained, was materializing. Seeing their opportunity, Halvia and Hyldia charged their most potent attacks. Moving to either side of the colossal being, Halvia channeled all her white energy into a massive vertical slash, while Hyldia focused her spatial power into an equally devastating vertical strike. The boss, sensing the imminent threat, raised its massive arms in a desperate attempt to parry the twin blades of pure energy. For a fleeting moment, it seemed to hold them at bay, but the combined power of their attacks was too great. The boss's molten arms buckled and shattered.
But before their energy blades could pierce the boss's core, a searing beam of violet energy shot from the side, piercing the lava behemoth's chest. The colossal figure staggered backward, a gaping hole now visible in its molten form, and began to dissolve into shimmering particles of light and heat.
Halvia and Hyldia landed softly on the scorched earth, their gazes fixed on the source of the unexpected attack. From seemingly nowhere, a woman with long, flowing blonde hair, clad in a long, elegant black dress, materialized. A serene smile graced her lips as she spoke, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. "Fortunately, I arrived just in time. All the other hunters are occupied in the Sands of Death, but luckily, I decided to check in here."
The woman's smile widened, and with a burst of incredible speed, she darted between Halvia and Hyldia, her hand reaching for the now fully materialized golden key that floated where the boss's heart had been. Hyldia reacted instantly, her hand shooting out to claim the prize, but her fingers passed right through the key as if it were nothing but an illusion. With a swift movement, the blonde woman grasped the key. Two beams of violet energy shot from her outstretched hand, striking Hyldia and Halvia with surprising force. Then, as a newly formed portal shimmered behind her, she teleported towards it, her voice echoing back with a cruel satisfaction. "Didn't you know? Boss keys can only be taken by those who defeated them."
Her smile turned into a mocking grin. "Until next time then. Remember my name... Velin." With a final, chilling glance, Velin vanished into the portal, leaving Hyldia and Halvia alone in the desolate arena.
Hyldia slammed her fist into the rocky ground, a frustrated cry tearing from her throat. "Damn it! We couldn't even avenge Riagard and Sarake!"
Halvia, though wounded and weary, maintained a stoic composure. "Let us not despair, Hyldia. There is still the group composed of Saland, Shimmon, Christy, and Haytham who will be facing the Water Boss. And we were supported greatly; Rabajen, Grimborg, Ken, Rick, and Sting are currently holding back numerous enemies to give us this opportunity."
A flicker of hope ignited in Hyldia's eyes. "Yes," she murmured, her voice filled with a renewed determination. "They are our last hope."
