Step beyond the line.

The trial was over.

The screen blinked, and the message changed to:

> "Class 2-D — 1st place.

Class 2-A — 2nd place.

Class 2-C — 3rd place.

Class 2-B — participant disqualified."

Silence. Then — sighs of relief. Someone shouted in joy. Someone dropped to their knees. But I stayed silent.

Too soon to celebrate.

"We did it," Aoi said, sitting beside me. "Because of you."

I didn't answer right away. The voice of Ai Sanada still echoed in my head:

> "My subordinates want to eliminate you. I'll hold them back. For now. But remember: this is only the beginning."

After the trial ended, we were gathered in the main hall of the tower. A transparent screen hovered above us, flashing photos one by one. Participants. Scores. Notes. Violations.

One photo — marked in red.

A girl with short hair. From 2-B.

> "Violation: sabotage during team assignment. Expelled."

Mina clenched her fist. I placed a hand on her shoulder.

"You knew her?"

She nodded.

"She wasn't cruel. Just scared. And scared people often become tools."

I remembered those words.

Later I went up to the tower's rooftop. The wind was sharp, but it cleared the mind.

Ai was already there. Calm, as always. Confidence in her eyes. And something else. A shadow of what's to come.

"You held up your end," she said. "We held up ours."

"So the temporary alliance is complete."

"No. It's just beginning."

I squinted slightly.

"What do you want?"

"In the next trial, I'll need you again. But the rules will change. More risk. More blood. Are you ready?"

"I don't play for trust. I play for results."

Ai smirked.

"That's exactly why you're dangerous. And exactly why they'll want to destroy you."

She turned to leave, then paused halfway.

"One more thing. The tower is over. But the war — it's just beginning."

Back in the room, I saw Mina staring out the window, even though it only showed concrete.

"She's right," she said. "It's just the beginning, isn't it?"

I nodded.

"And that's why we need to be stronger. Not just physically. Inside."

She sighed and looked at me.

"Will you shut yourself off again?"

"No."

I stepped closer.

"Now I'll stand in the center. Because if darkness begins to gather — I need to be the first one to see it."
