Season 1 - Chapter 7: Ghosts of the Past

The night was silent, save for the distant hum of the city and the soft footfalls of Elias as he moved through the shadows. He was hunting, just as he always did. The target tonight was another high-ranking member of the Obsidian Order, one who had crossed him one too many times. His mission was simple: eliminate the threat.

But in the midst of it all, something unexpected happened.

As he approached the alley where his target was supposed to meet his contacts, a scream pierced the air. Elias paused, his instincts kicking in. He knew he had a job to do, but this... something about the scream called to him. He couldn't ignore it.

He followed the sound, rounding a corner just in time to see a woman—Selene—cornered by a group of Obsidian's thugs. She was trying to fight them off, but the odds were stacked against her. She had no idea what she was up against, and it was clear she was moments away from being overpowered.

Elias' instincts took over. Without thinking, he launched himself into the fray. His movements were fluid, deadly, as he took down the men one by one with precision. He wasn't a hero—he wasn't out to save anyone—but something in her eyes stopped him from letting her die in that moment. She was just another pawn in the game, a target caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

After the last man crumpled to the ground, Elias stood over Selene, his eyes cold, unreadable. She was shaking, eyes wide with fear, but alive.

"Go," Elias said, his voice low, not even offering a hand to help her up. "Before more come."

Selene stared at him, her breath ragged as she processed the fact that she was still alive. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came. She simply nodded, fear still evident in her eyes, and turned, disappearing into the night.

Elias watched her go, the faintest of frowns crossing his face. Something had felt off about that encounter, but he pushed the thought aside. His target was still waiting, and he couldn't afford to waste time.

But as he turned back to his mission, he couldn't shake the image of her face—Selene, just another casualty in the tangled web of Obsidian. She would never know who had saved her, and Elias didn't care. But somewhere deep down, the encounter lingered.

A fleeting moment in a much darker game
