Before the Cataclysm

The Planet Arai was a utopia for its people until the prophesied cataclysm came a few centuries too early. Almost the entire population had been wiped off the face of the planet, with few left barely being able to survive. But, apparently, the cataclysm that destroyed their planet was not the one of the prophesies, but was triggered. Who did this? And why?
