A Day Full of Surprises

Ethan's P.O.V.

"So, tell me... Are you free tonight" he said as I just stared at him. I muttered a little "Why?". He laughed at me and then said, "Remember Jack from our old school? I recently got in touch with him and he wanted me to join some party he was throwing. Coincidentally, the party it tonight and you are coming with me." Confused and curious, I nodded as I checked the time. It was almost 7:00 pm. "It's already 7, when are we going to leave?" I asked as he extended his hand towards me gesturing me to hold it in my own. I did so as he held my hand majestically and started "We'll be leaving right now" and smiled at me. "Huh?!" I said as he dragged me towards my car enthusiastically. He stared at me and then the keys in my hand. Knowing what he meant by that I threw the car keys towards his direction and he caught them as if he were a Baseball expert.

We sat in the car as it was completely silent throughout the drive. But surprisingly, it wasn't an awkward one but comfortable silence between us as if were still taking in the fact the we were together, sitting in the same car and breathing the same air. I was lost in my thoughts when I all of a sudden realised that my sister would be waiting for me. I dialed the landline telephone of our house and when she picked up I told her to sleep in time and eat the burger kept in the fridge. As I hung up the call, I felt an intense gaze over me. I looked over towards Charles and said a polite "What?". He turned his attention back to the road. "You still have the sweetest voice I've ever heard but not that I'm complaining" he said leaving behind a red tint over my cheeks. "And you still love to use those cheesy lines of yours on me because you have no one else to say them to." I said as the car stopped immediately making our bodies jerk forward. I stared at him for a hard minute as I heard him clear him throat. "We're here he said and exited the car to open the door for me. He spoke again "And you do have the sweetest voice I've ever heard. Don't think I said it because I have no one else to say it to. I just said it because it's true." I was beyond flustered as I tried not to make eye contact with him.

We walked towards the house which seemed unnecessarily big. Surrounding's full of drunk bodies colliding against one other matching the rhythm of music was nothing new to me. I had seen worse. The smell of smoke was everywhere. People making out in the corner of the room, dancing like there is no tomorrow and drinking bottles and bottles of alcohol. Charles wrapped him arms around my shoulder as we walked towards the bar counter. "Two vodka shots please." A voice was heard from behind us. The deep voice froze me at my place and I wished to run as far away as possible. This actually couldn't be happening. This isn't true. It's just a bad dream of mine. Wake up right now! is what my mind kept repeating. My heart was beating faster than ever. My smile faded away which was now taken over by a fear of facing him all over again. I shifted my gaze to my side seeing none other than Nick with a girl. Their bodies pressed together seemed as if they were just going to kiss. It broke my heart seeing my best friend kiss a random girl. But why? I had made up my mind that this day can't get any more surprising. But destiny surely does not fail to surprise us now, does it?
