Chapter 2

The next instant, I suddenly realized a car was hurtling towards me.

I wanted to dodge, but it was too late.

After being struck, I lay on the ground, clutching my abdomen, feeling an excruciating pain all over my body.

The car door in front of me opened.

As Dashiell rushed towards me, I realized that he was the one who had hit me...

He hesitated for a moment, seemingly not expecting to have hit me.

"Juno?" Dashiell called out to me as he ran over.

Just then, a tearful female voice suddenly rang out from his passenger seat.

"Dashiell... I feel so awful..."

My eyes widened as I suddenly realized there was someone in his passenger seat.

At this point, Dashiell stopped in his tracks.

Clutching my stomach, I grabbed his pant leg and pleaded, "Dashiell, my stomach hurts so bad. Can you please rush me to the hospital?"

Dashiell bit his lip.

I could tell he was hesitating.

Finally, he ran towards the passenger side, only saying to me, "Juno, I'll call 911."

My vision became blurry.

Between me and someone else, Dashiell chose someone else.A warm current washed over me as I watched Dashiell's retreating figure, and I lost consciousness.

When I opened my eyes, I suddenly sat up and reached for my belly.

...My abdomen had completely flattened.

It had been less than a day since I found out I was carrying two babies.

But my right to be a mother had been taken away from me.

I caressed my stomach as tears fell.

Only when a pain spread from my calf did I realize that my right leg was also broken.

At that moment, the hospital room door opened.

Dashiell hurried in carrying a bowl of porridge, bent down to touch my face, and kept apologizing to me.

He said he didn't mean to hit me. But at the time, his assistant was sitting in the passenger seat, her hair messed up by the wind, and he wanted to help her fix it. He momentarily lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into me.

I had met his assistant before.

Her name was Stella, a girl in her early twenties, curious about everything, always smiling.

When I occasionally went to the research lab to see Dashiell, I could see him horsing around with Stella.

Stella would giggle, calling out "Dashiell, Dashiell."Dashiell teased her with a smirk, but when he saw me enter the room, he quickly composed himself and explained that he was just joking around with the young lady.

At that moment, my lips trembled uncontrollably, and tears began to fall once again.

Dashiell, seemingly unable to understand why I kept crying, tried to console me. He assured me that my leg wasn't seriously injured and that I'd be back on my feet in a week at most.

To make amends, he handed me all the credit cards he had on him. He wiped away my tears and promised to take me shopping once I was discharged from the hospital, saying he'd buy me anything I wanted.

I shook my head, my voice choked with emotion: "Dashiell, I just found out today that I..."

I wanted to tell him that we had lost our baby.

But before I could finish, a nurse rushed over and began speaking to Dashiell: "Mr. Carlisle, Miss Stratton just woke up. She's been crying and asking for you..."
