If this is her choice, then I will silently grant her wish.
"Alright, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together."
Sarah thought I had agreed with her words. She changed her usual demeanor and grasped my arm with a beaming smile.
"Honey, it's us who will have a lifetime of happiness. You go home and wait for me. I'll be back once I'm done here."
Mocking laughter rippled through the crowd. I knew everyone was enjoying the spectacle at my expense.
But it didn't matter. After tomorrow, I wouldn't be seen in this city anymore.
I left this place in disgust and dialed the fire department, hoping they could do me one last favor.
After arranging everything, I returned to the mansion and threw all our couple items into the trash.
I tore our wedding photos in half and burned them to ashes.
This love had completely vanished.
As I was leaving, Sarah no longer held back. She posted the ultrasound report and pregnancy test on social media.
In the background, she and Mark were holding hands, both wearing matching couple rings just like the ones I had with her.
Friends and family flooded the comments with congratulations, asking about the baby's gender.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before Sarah deleted that post.
The child's origins were unclear, and she couldn't bear the pressure of public opinion. As I stand on the rooftop with my luggage, I board the helicopter bound for Syria.
I gave her my all, only to be met with endless betrayals.
This time, I'll live for myself.
Sarah, I want nothing to do with you or your money anymore.
After I left, friends and family sent messages congratulating Sarah.
But she couldn't shake the feeling that she had made a terrible mistake.
My wounded expression haunted her thoughts as she sat in the hospital hallway, causing a scene in her distress.
Mark initially thought something was wrong with the baby, but upon learning the truth, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"What woman feels comfortable during pregnancy? You're being ridiculous. Stop making a fuss, it's embarrassing."
"Now that you're pregnant, everything needs to revolve around the baby, understand?"
Sarah looked at him, bewildered. She was about to argue when she heard a commotion of footsteps.
At the end of the hallway stood three or four elderly women, who hurriedly approached and surrounded her, leaving no room for escape.
They stared intently at her belly.
"Can't tell if it's a boy or a girl from looking at that bump. But this girl's got wide hips, she'll be good for childbearing, I reckon."
"Our family must have a grandson. Without a son, you can't be buried in the family plot."Sarah's brow furrowed into a frown as she shot an angry glare.
"Who do you think you are to speak to me like that? Mark, don't tell me you think the same way?"
The baby was already three months along, just beginning to take shape.
He spoke with a forced smile that didn't reach his eyes, "Sarah, don't take their bluntness personally. Having a child is about continuing the family line, after all. A boy would be ideal."
Her chest heaved with anger as she threw the ultrasound report in his face.
She called for her bodyguards.
"Bullshit! How the hell was I ever blind enough to fall for you? I'll get rid of this baby, and you better get the hell out of my sight!"
Sarah didn't look back once, no matter how much shouting followed her.
Suddenly, she felt overwhelmingly guilty towards me.
In a panic, she tried to contact me to apologize, but couldn't find me anywhere.
John, I've decided to get an abortion. I was wrong before. Please talk to me, okay?
The text message she sent vanished into the void, met with no response.
