It was 6:00 AM and I woke up—but I also wasn't awake. I realized it was probably due to the second entity in me. She was still asleep.I proceeded to brush my teeth, and then it hit me. I remembered everything that had happened to me yesterday. I felt incredibly nauseous and vomited. My heart was racing. I was scared. My life was over. It had already been in jeopardy, but now it was even worse.I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. I couldn't see anything in myself anymore. I felt empty.
But I had to get up—I had a lecture at 10 AM.I wasn't really interested in education or lectures. I'm not even sure why I attend. But I had to go anyway.
I took my bag and stuffed my laptop into it. I wore my long coat and tied my blue scarf around my neck to prepare for the long day ahead.I went to the bus stop and took the nearest bus heading toward my college.
As I walked toward the building, I was overwhelmed by the number of students—even though this was my second year there. I went directly into my class, and my lecturer was late.
As I sat down, waiting for him, I thought about everything that had happened to me the day before. As I began to fall into a sea of endless thoughts, someone tapped me. My eyes widened, and I got goosebumps again, but I settled down after realizing it was my colleague.
She said, "Hi Jeremiah. What's got you looking so down today?"
Maya was a beautiful girl, almost the same age as me. To be honest, I was infatuated with her during my first year, but I never attempted to woo her because I was a fucking coward. She eventually found herself a boyfriend—who, coincidentally, was my childhood friend. Eventually, the infatuation faded into nothing.
I answered her and said, "Nothing, just school stress. But I'll be fine."
She smirked and said, "Okay. Take care."
It took me some years to realize I had no genuine friend or connection with anybody. I usually subconsciously distanced myself from people—which was a terrible trait to have.
Then I heard a loud bang in my head as the lecturer walked in. She said inside my mind, "Morning. I can hear all your negative emotions and anxiety flowing through me. Keep your fucking thoughts to yourself."
That offended me—given the fact that it was my body—but I let it slide.I responded inside my head, "My day is already ruined. Actually, my life is ruined, thanks to you. The least you could do for me is shut the hell up."
After a lot of arguing, she finally went silent. I felt terrible saying that to her, but I wasn't exactly in the best place. Then I realized that time had passed and I hadn't written down a single thing the lecturer was saying.I stood up and went home.
SOMEWHERE ELSE — Yommir City, 12:07 AM
"Good afternoon, my liege. We have confirmed that she is dead. Her body has been possessed by another soul.""We vampires are immortal. There is no way she is dead. Have you confirmed that her soul was extinguished?""Yes, my liege. She is dead.""Take this. Go to the Day City and look for a male human named Jeremiah. My third eye has informed me that she has possessed a human vessel. Confirm this and report back to me. You're allowed to use any underhanded means to extract her soul from the human.""Yes, my liege. I will not fail you."Door opens.
I began to feel anguish and dread all of a sudden, and I immediately heard a voice in my head: "HE'S HERE."
As I turned to look at the door, I felt a presence behind me. I could sense his bloodlust spewing like candle wax.
Then he said, with a monstrous yet calm tone, "Jeremiah, have you seen anything unusual recently?"
As I was about to answer, I felt his malevolent gaze, and I started to vomit blood. He said to me, "Give it up, Jeremiah. I can see through your thoughts."
Through all of this, the second entity within me didn't utter a single word.I attempted to run away, but I noticed he didn't even try to chase after me.
As I ran, I heard a voice in my head: "Come to the Night City, Jeremiah, if you don't want the eyeballs of your lover to be gouged out."
Immediately, I knew what he meant. As I was about to run back to the class, I saw him take Maya—and he vanished into black mist.
Under Maya's table was an address:856 Weston Avenue, Daybreak, Yommir City.
