Rain trickled from the sky like corrupted pixels—each drop freezing midair for a second before catching up with time.
Kaien stared at the girl.
Same eyes. Same way of standing like she was waiting for something to attack her. But younger. Sharper. Afraid.
"…My daughter?"
She nodded, then immediately shook her head. "Kinda. Technically. I was—" she looked around, whispered, "—spliced from your data. One of the failsafes. But I escaped the labs. They called me Echo-Five. I call myself Riven."
"Riven…" Kaien muttered. "Why did they send you?"
"They didn't. I ran. They're hunting you. The Architects. All of them."
Kaien's eyes narrowed. "I thought I was an Architect."
She looked at him like that was the saddest thing she'd ever heard.
"You were the first. But they copied you. Duplicated your design. You're not the only 'Kaien Vale' anymore… just the only one that broke the loop."
> [NEW QUEST UNLOCKED – "HUNT THE GHOSTS"]
Objective: Locate and eliminate the Six Architect Echoes.
Reward: Truth. And something far more dangerous.
Status: [1/6 Awakened]
Warning: They know you exist now.
Suddenly—
A whistle rang through the alley.
Riven's eyes widened. "No. Already?!"
From the rooftop, something dropped.
A man.
Identical to Kaien.
Same face. Same voice.
But wrapped in blood-soaked cybernetic armor, and eyes glowing blue instead of gold.
"Echo-1 reporting," he said flatly. "Target Kaien Vale located. Authorization: Erase."
Kaien stepped in front of Riven.
"You really gonna try me, clone?"
Echo-1 didn't blink. "No. I'm going to finish the loop you ruined."
Then he moved.
Faster than light. Too fast—
Kaien blocked the first strike with instinct alone. Concrete shattered behind him. Echo-1 spun mid-air, launching Kaien through a wall like a bullet.
But Kaien grinned through the blood.
"You've got my moves…"
He cracked his knuckles, flames flickering to life across his arms.
"…but you don't have my rage."
> [UNLOCKING NEW ABILITY – "LOOPBREAKER STYLE: VARIANT SLASH"]
Kaien blurred forward.
Steel met flesh. Flame met code.
Riven screamed, "Watch out! He can shift timelines!"
But Kaien wanted that.
As Echo-1 phased in and out of five parallel strikes—
Kaien grabbed his collar mid-jump, yanked him close, and whispered:
"You forgot one thing."
He drove his knee straight into Echo-1's chest—
"You're a copy."
—and broke the loop.
> [ECHO-1 DELETED]
1 Architect Down. 5 Remain.
Memory Fragment Absorbed… Downloading…
Kaien knelt, panting, as the fragment fed itself into his mind. A new location. A glass tower floating above the skyline. And a name burned into his head:
"Dr. Solari."
Riven helped him up. "You okay?"
He stood, taller than before. More focused. More dangerous.
"No."
He looked at the skyline where the tower blinked.
"But he will be."
