Chapter 6

After an indeterminate period, I was roused by several disjointed sounds.

I opened my eyes, gazing around at the persisting darkness.

Only through the center of the door did a beam of light penetrate.

I rushed over, pressing my face against the small round hole to peer outside.

So many people.

Is that a wedding dress?

It's beautiful.

I looked at the woman and man in the center of the ballroom, feeling an overwhelming sense of familiarity.

Yet I couldn't for the life of me remember who they were.

No!

I couldn't even remember who I was.

But none of that mattered anymore.

I just wanted to get out.

I threw myself against the door with all my might.

Once, twice, three times.

The dull thuds finally caught everyone's attention.

"What's that? Where's it coming from?"

"There's a hidden door over there! Look, everyone!"

"Someone's inside, call the police!"

Hearing the murmurs of the crowd, a flicker of guilt flashed across Lorne's eyes.

"What's going on?"
