After an indeterminate period, I was roused by several disjointed sounds.
I opened my eyes, gazing around at the persisting darkness.
Only through the center of the door did a beam of light penetrate.
I rushed over, pressing my face against the small round hole to peer outside.

I just wanted to get out.
