"The priceless sample of the latest virus!"
The lab assistant blocked my path, eyes filled with contempt and anger.
All eyes in the conference hall were drawn to the sudden blaring of the alarm.
Zoran turned around, his pupils contracting sharply when he saw it was me.
"Serenity?"
"You dared to break into Columbia's core lab just to get my attention?"
The researchers present exchanged glances, whispering among themselves:
"Is Professor Channing implying she's not the expert sent by Johns Hopkins?"
Zoran pressed his lips together, his expression instantly becoming rigid:
"My apologies, everyone, for this embarrassing scene. She was once my colleague at the military hospital."
Upon hearing Zoran's explanation, the experts in the lab exchanged meaningful looks.
"Professor Channing sure is lucky in love. Both his ex-colleague and current fiancée are top talents!"
"Huh? Wasn't Dr. Winters said to be his first love?"
"Now there's a military hospital colleague in the mix?"
Faced with the chatter, Zoran's expression gradually froze.Standing next to him, Vivienne's gaze towards me was full of wariness and hostility.
"You've all misunderstood," he said.
"She's hardly a colleague."
"Just an intern I happened to work with when Vivienne and I were having a spat."
Zoran then turned to the lab supervisor:
"Put this loss on my tab."
"Please escort her out of the lab area."
Throughout, he deliberately avoided my gaze, as if I were some dangerous virus sample.
I let out a cold laugh.
Fine, I never want to have anything to do with him in this lifetime either.
"Get out quickly," the lab assistant shoved me. "Don't contaminate the sterile environment."
"How dare a third-rate doctor like you even compare yourself to Professor Channing?"
The assistant spoke while eyeing my protective suit covered in sampling dust with disgust.
I frowned and said:
"Wait, I still have important samples to collect."
The assistant scoffed:
"Samples?"
"Do you think I'm stupid?"
"I've seen plenty of women like you throwing themselves at men. Don't think you can use this as an excuse to get close to Professor Channing."
With that, the assistant grabbed my protective suit and started dragging me out.At this moment, Vivienne suddenly spoke up:
"Stop right there."
She gracefully walked over, arm in arm with Zoran, her eyes gleaming with triumph.
"Serenity, Zoran has never cared about you. Stop embarrassing yourself."
"We're about to get married now. Don't you think it's pathetic for you to keep hanging around like this?"
"That's right," Zoran said with furrowed brows and an icy tone:
"I've never had any feelings for you. Stop clinging to these unrealistic fantasies."
"Even if I had to wait another eighty years, Vivienne would still be my only choice."
"How about this," he paused, "I can sponsor you to go to another research institute."
"Don't show up at my lab anymore."
As he spoke, he gestured for Vivienne to take out her phone, ready to transfer money.
Opening his contact list, Zoran froze.
"You blocked me?"
He looked up at me in disbelief.
