Clara’s POV.

I sat at home anxious after being told my grandfather would be visiting us that day. Panic setting in because I knew he wasn't coming to visit. He never came to visit.

I rummaged through my stuff looking for a distraction to not think about the school board meeting, so I decided how to focus.

"Clara, Willow and Rowan, they are here, they are coming upstairs, soon dear." Aunt Cecilla alerted me from downstairs.

"Thank you, auntie." Phew!! I breathed in for a long time ahh!! They were great people for distraction. I hurriedly put back my stuff in the position and waited for them to come up as I could hear their footsteps getting nearer.

Knocking and opening my door, Willow comes in looking so excited. "Hey munchkin what's up! Are you good?" She asked, sitting down next to me on the bed.

"Yh, I guess I'm good. How are you?" I knew another question would be thrown my way as she nodded her head answering my question, so I just opened up. "Well, I'm nervous as hell, grandfather's coming to visit and I'm surely going to get chewed out for not finding my mate." I said looking at her.

"A mate doesn't come easily. We all know that if grandfather comes, tell him to take a chill pill. He was mateless for a year." Rowan came in saying. I smiled, Rowan always had a way with his words. He knew how to make me smile without trying hard and that was exactly what he was doing.

"Hey Rowan, what's up I said standing up to greet him. He was different from Willow who didn't really care how she was greeted. He always expected anybody to stand while greeting him. I walked towards him and hugged him before going to sit on my bed.

"I wish I was bold enough to tell him that it isn't easy to find a mate. He keeps saying it's easy to find a mate but he just keeps telling me that it's more than easy to find a mate; and that I'm just not bent on finding my mate." I say sighing as I settle down on my bed, Willow taps my back calming me.

She clears her throat, removing her bangs from her eye. "But for real, why's it so hard to find our mate? Why does it have to be their scent? The moon goddess already has put us to be together but then made it hard for us to find them, that's tough."

"That's why I'm frustrated, each party thrown in the pack I'm forced out of the house by force to go find a mate and it's a hassle for me." I added.

"I know right! Like now being mateless is kind of my thing, I'm not pressured by anyone." Rowas trying to cheer me up added.

At that moment I really wished I was their sibling, their parents didn't force them to find their mate and gave them enough time to decide if they wanted to get mated that early. I miss mum and dad right now. I knew if they were with me I wouldn't be in this situation.

"Being mateless makes you lonely, Rowan. A mate gives you company and then you both build a family, it's a beautiful process." Aunty Cecilla's voice interrupted my thoughts and her words sounded beautiful but I wasn't persuaded.

"What if I like being lonely? I have you and uncle Garret. Is there any need for me to be mated?" I asked her trying to stall the message she came to relay.

She looked at me and laughed out loudly, "you really don't like the idea of having a mate? Well, you can't be with us till you die so you have to find a mate." She concluded dropping the snacks and turned to me with her eyes speaking before her mouth did "he's here, come down quickly you know how much he hates someone keeping him waiting."

"Aunty, can't you tell grandpa that I'm sick? It's not like he'll force you to bring me down." I asked her pleading with my eyes, the only access to weaken her.

"No! Aunty can't and won't lie, it's more like I knew you would use puppy eyes on her as your final weapon, seeing she's already thinking of lying on your behalf." Uncle Garret said as he entered my room, if my eyes could work on aunt Cecilla. I had no chance with Garret, he was so thick to my pleas concerning Grandpa.

Uncle Garret was one man that could show up with nobody noticing his presence till he said something. "He's here for you baby girl, there's no escaping from it; this time. Be down at five." I looked at him, his face was set. There was absolutely no need for me to beg him. It was like I would be pouring water into a basket.

He left with aunt Cecilla and Rowan and Willow stood up after they left "let's get you to grandpa, dear . I hope he doesn't chew you out more today, oh God." She said shivers running down her spine.

"Oh come on now, he's still her grandfather, not a prison warder. Stop exaggerating, Will." Rowan shushed his sister, making me laugh. He hardly did it except he was nervous too.

I stood up, "I'm fine you guys, if he chews me out I have you guys to make me whole again. Piece me back together." I added and moved downstairs with them, each of them holding my hands as we walked down.

As I walked down the stairs, I thought of excuses that I could tell him so he could go easy on me. Nothing came into my mind.

Sighting grandfather, my friends let go of me and wished me luck, "we'll be back, just text or call us when it's over." Willow said as they walked out of my house.

I walked towards the sitting room to where he sat, my eyes locking him for a brief moment. "Why do you always waste my time getting down each time I come around, ?" Lord, Help me grandpa can I even sit beside you? I thought as he asked me with his voice raised immediately he saw me.

"Hi, Grandpa, how are you? I asked him trying to calm him down, his temper was bad.

"Don't try to be all sweet, did you find your mate? He asked with a mean face and stuck up.

Should I steal a mate's grandfather?

I shook my head and answered him, "no grandpa, I didn't find any. But grandpa, are you so interested in my mate that you ignored my greetings and didn't ask me how I am?"

"Fine! I'm doing well and I know you are doing well, why couldn't you find a mate? Do you want to be mateless?? He asked me, looking at me directly. "Clara DON'T AVOID MY QUESTIONS OR MY EYES, ANSWER ME!!" he bellowed at me.

My aunt and uncle came out from the kitchen to calm him down, "father." My uncle started "I don't think we should jack her up this way, she will find her mate. Just give her more time." He said coming closer to block my grandpa from seeing me.

"When will that be? Every other girl in the pack has found their mate, so why has no one found hers?" He asked his tone to be calmer.

"Father, it was hard for you to find your mate. It's really hard to find your mate especially if you're human like him . She's different and we know that, take it easy on her please."

Grandpa looked at me and then at Cecilla, "go get me the box I bought earlier, there's important stuff there." My aunt hurriedly went to get the box, a few minutes later she was out dragging it.

My uncle went closer to her, clearing my grandpa's view so he could see me.

"Grandpa, what's in there?" I asked looking at the box uncle was carrying that way
